Sad truth about we got for paying 60$ for Halo infinite's campaign

There would be riots in the streets if 343 priced this game (with everything included) for $100+

Saying otherwise is either wishful thinking or straight up ignorance.

I’m pretty sure games were only $50 back then.

Why can’t the campaign be free and everyone pay $60 for the MP?

I’m in the same boat, but it’s not that I don’t enjoy customization. There are enough items in the free battle pass that I’m quite happy with, at least for now. And I’ve accepted that my Gungnir armor is likely going to be in the shop, so more than likely I will have to settle for something else.

Unless there’s something really nice AND prices drop substantially, 343 (and Microsoft) are not getting a penny more from me after I purchase the campaign.

Agreed!

Just a fun comparison:

Halo Reach ($60 for campaign + MP/forge, co-op etc.):

21 helmets (now 26 in MCC)
18 Chests
18 shoulders
6 wrists

Infinite ($60 for campaign + $10 battlepass +>$1000 of store purchases):
18 helmets
16 chests
11 shoulders
5 wrists

To have a content complete Halo Infinite costs 17 times as much as Reach despite containing… less content.

I’m pretty sure the market asked for f2p. The market and history also showed that paid dlc ala map packs was overall bad for the matchmaking experience and community.

Too right H5’s quick playlist was beyond pathetic.

Nice summarization
I miss the R. v B.
They could have re-introduced H CE fall damage mechanic where if you crouch as you land you take 0 or next to 0 damage.
The banshee bomb should hit like a tank shell, not a rotten potato.
MCC has better customization, I still hold OG H3 as the pinnacle, because armor was linked to in game achievements.

$100 for 10 seasons? I really would have to question the sanity of someone who decides to buy the premium pass for every single season. I mean, am I in the minority in that I don’t really change up the look of my spartan that much? Of the seasons released for MCC, I really only use a few of the new items 343 released. For Reach I use the new chest piece they released and sometimes I’ll change my GUNGNIR helmet for the GRD helmet. I mixed in some of the new Elite options for my Halo 3 Elite. I grabbed the SPI armor for my Halo 3 spartan. I use the Mark VII helmet for Halo 4. The rest? I mean, I have them unlocked simply to have the option but I don’t see myself ever throwing on 95% of them. Currently, I don’t see anything in the current Reach season for Infinite that catches my eye that isn’t free.

Practically every aaa single player gane be it sony or microsoft and some nintendo is 60. Why is it just because multiplayer is free, its expected the si gle player game should be half price? Its an entirely different sku.

I cant select to pay 30 each year for the cod games or battlefield games for just the single player, i but. Agame its 60. I buy halo infinite, ita 60. Unless its on ps5 and i gotta pay 70. And even then i typically dont have an issue paying 70 for short songle player aaa games

This is what Halo was about, using your head. Not this mindless run like a bat out of hell just to get the kill. That’s what Collision was also about, using your head, think before you just run…

I’m tired of seeing companies ruin games and before they release the game they make all the fluff TWAB’S that are nothing but BS these days, just selling hype. Then when the game releases you see the truth. This is why I wait to buy anything from any company nowadays. Their actions speak a hell of a lot louder than their words.

Why would anyone pay $60 for the campaign? GamePass is $15 a month if you have already used up the promotions. If not it’s $1 or $2 for a month or two depending on the promotion. What is with the whining about $60? If you want the campaign for more than 1-3 months then $60 seems like a fair price for the hours of entertainment. If not then anyone with a brain isn’t paying $60 and it has been made very clear that you don’t need to pay that much.

$73 (adjusted for inflation) in 2011 with a less saturated market and BP’s, etc were not an industry standard.

$60 in 2021 with more expensive networking/design requirements, more protections against crunch, and an industry where players made BP’s the defacto standard.

Also if you want a game to be a service for 10 years or whatever the plan is, you need to have a constant money inflow. R6 Siege avoided a BP for nearly half a decade and Rust has market items, DLC, and Perma-store to support it’s development from the indie side of things.

**there is a snowflakes chance in hell you would get a CFO to approve a full staff being dedicated to a game longer than year or two after launch if it were just a static unit sale without MTX or a subscription service **

it’s not that simple

(Also going back to R6, the eSports investment paid off. So they had to dump money into it for a hot minute + MTX, and they made their money back big time, but key point here is ā€œit took timeā€. So a lot of the stuff we’re annoyed with now we’ll probably be laughing at months down the road.)

I’m all right with the game being free to play no one really asked for it to be free to play and I understand why they went with this it’s to draw more people to it because they see it as free and nothing’s going to steer them away from trying it out at least but my problem with the campaign still being $60 is you’re not getting anything for the multiplayer there’s said to be maybe a few items that are unlocked from the campaign but I personally think that you should be getting a lot from the campaign for the multiplayer as well because again the multiplayer is a big part of Halo it’s just as important as the campaign and the progression system that we have now isn’t great I just wish that the monetization was done better I don’t have a problem with the free to play game my problem is with the way they the store all the items are overpriced they need to be 75 to 80% less than what they are before they’re even worth purchasing like for instance is the Anubis helmet and the other items that came with it I don’t remember specifically what came with it because I didn’t really look at it that much I just looked at the helmet to see what it was and then left the store I haven’t bought anything out of the store and I never will until they’re much lower prices but with the free to play their sole focus will be on the monetization so they can make their money I’m not upset by that it’s just it shouldn’t be as anti-consumer as it is right now the prices need to be significantly lower

iirc the reason why they are doing this is because they are gonna be updating Infinite, both Campaign and MP over 10 years.

The money has to flow from somewhere.
But the catch here is that there is plenty of ways to take my money without first torturing me and abusing me with this progression system and near 0 customization.

I am playing both on gamepass and don’t expect to spend anything on the multiplayer unless they radically overhaul the monetization and customization model, but I’d argue 343 hasn’t made a campaign worth $60 yet. I definitely would be waiting for a sale before picking up Infinite’s campaign if I didn’t have gamepass.

Halo 4’s campaign was worth maybe $30. Halo 5’s campaign was worth maybe $0.99.

This right here is my favorite thing among all Halo games. And H3 ranking system.

Because the campaign is a static story that doesn’t evolve over time and you can’t milk a story driven sp game like you can a mp game

@Fully_Skully

There really isn’t much to debate on that.

I will say, there are games out there that continue to milk the story and continue to be successful.
