The Wasp, like all air vehicles, are powerful and fun to use. However, it seems that it has made the Phaeton redundant. Both are VTOL style vehicles, both are fast and very evasive, and both have an automatic turret and missiles for a primary and secondary weapon.
It used in BTB because it is more “balanced”, because unlike the Phaeton, it cannot teleport to a new position for 2 seconds.( I will not count damage and time to overheat/cool down as major differences because both vehicles are capable of killing Spartans in a short time). This little difference is why the Wasp for a lack of a better term, outshines the Phaeton in BTB, in terms of availability on maps. This is shame for 2 reasons:
The Phaeton is a good and cool air vehicle.
The Phaeton existed before the Wasp.
The Wasp is like a new baby that take all the attention of the parents away from its older brother, the Phaeton.
I think you have it wrong they are both powerful but the phaeton is extremely more powerful in the hands of a skilled player. Faster TTK higher amount of ammunition for both guns and rockets. The wasp is faster but can be destroyed easily the phaeton is well armored
pheatons are much better than wasps. they have completely superior firepower and more importantly they can dodge. the only thing the wasp does better is have a shield

I dunno, i think the fact of how hard it is to get Phaetons compared to wasps (although still far too rare) has an affect on this.
Saying that i got a Helious in FF from a random vehicle (rare quality) in round 2 lol, safe to say, it lasted the game.

There is a phaeton on a BTB map now? - From a WZ perspective wasps are pretty much early game fodder, if used well (or en mass) early in match they provide a distinct advantage to the team using them. They tend to fall apart at around req level five when the various rockets/splasers/arclight are available to counter them. The evade on the Phaeton makes them a lot harder to take down. - The phaeton can be pretty beastly if you use can stay behind cover and pop out for a quick missile barrage or Helios beam. - The helios is also pretty good at taking down unsuspecting banshees unless the pilot is inferior to the banshee pilot, while I wouldn’t want to face a banshee in any of the wasp variants
the phaeton is absurdly better than the wasp lmao, have you ever used a helios? that thing lasts forever and you can kill pretty much everything probably the best vehicle in the game besides the Hannibal scorpion
I definitely wouldn’t say the Wasp “outshines” the Phaeton, but as far as everything else goes you are spot on.
The simple fact of it is, the Wasp is just a Phaeton that’s weaker and can’t teleport. The two are entirely redundant to one another, with the only major difference between them being that you can call more Wasps faster in WZ than you can Phaetons.
I wish 343 had put in the Falcon, or even the Hornet, instead of the Wasp. They wasted an opportunity to expand the vehicle sandbox, and they wasted everything a new UNSC Air vehicle could do.
To be clear, what I mean by “outshine” is the fact that the Wasp is more available. The Phaeton is more powerful, but there is no reason for its absence in BTB.
A small but slightly effecting nerf would be to make wasps have to switch weapons.
I don’t know why but I feel like I would prefer that even as a player using a wasp it would make the secondary less spamable and more reserved for when necassary.
I think the problem is generally a wasp goes more ignored or avoided but phaetons tend to get shot at till they aren’t there. If I see an enemy phaeton my reaction is to put that at the highest priority to kill but wasp I’ll only bother if it’s blocking. Phaetons are the only thing I still try kill if I only have loadouts left too.

No I am not. If that were to happen, we will be in the same situation, but reversed. Nothing but Phaetons, but the Wasp is nowhere to be found. All I want is more vehicle diversity in BTB.
I prefer the Wasp, honestly. It’s cheap, and quick. I wouldn’t mind paying an additional REQ point for some slightly stronger shields, however. I was never the Phaetons biggest fan.

By the way you’ve worded this post, it seems as if you have never used either of these vehicles.

The Phaeton likely won’t show up in BTB matchmaking for the same reason that the Hannibal vehicles won’t: They’re way overpowered for the game mode. I’m already surprised they have Corp and Sword vehicles.

A vehicle is over powered only if there is a lack of counters on the battlefield. Air vehicles are vulnerable to the Plasma Pistol, Spartan Laser, and the Rocket Launcher. The Phaeton can work on a BTB map with multiple anti-air weapons and vehicles, along with little or no cover for air vehicles.

Judging by their Weapons and Vehicles stats, they haven’t used the Phaeton at all. At least, not to get any kills.

Esipicially the Phaeton Helios is way better than wasps.

hm hm ha hah ahahaha! don’t ask, but I wish they were armored. They are cake work compared to the Ultra’s armor

If that’s true, then why haven’t they added these vehicles in yet?
It already takes multiple PP’s and a laser just to keep a pair of warthogs and a wasp in check in BTB, how much would they need to bloat the sandbox to accommodate a Phaeton?
