Personally I don’t like the outlines system … especially concerning the enemies. However, everyone is free to like it or not.
But why is it not possible to make a customizable RvB option ?! do my team and me with the same personalized color (to unlock) for example: blue / gold and another personalized color for enemies? With the same golden shield for everyone !
It’s not a bad idea and i think it would be good. But i think this could be also good:
Maybe the best way is, to remove outlines only from the enemy. It can be a really good solution for all involved parties. That means (i’m not claiming this is the best idea, not at all^^):
Better player expression on the enemys (good for the devs* and players) - Only outlines and name above the heads on friendlies —> (you can still change the colour for the friendly outline, good for players in general, possibly also good for colorblind players) - If you see a spartan on the Map without outline and/or no name above the head, you can shoot immediately —> No Confusion (good for players) - This one goes hand in hand with the point i written, one above this point: Only name above head but with outlines on enemys can be hard to differ if it’s firend or foe, if you only see the legs of an enemy. —> Thats why it’s a benefit, if enemys don’t have outlines at all. - It’s in general an easy to remind and fast to get used to system, i believe. - Maybe an additional option for purists/outline-haters, to change the opacity for friendly outlines, so they can set it to 0 opacity for no outlines at all. (but not what the devs want, if that is relevant, put to be in question)* Good for devs because, they don’t have to throw overboard their idea for outlines, but increase at the same time a goal for them: Player expression.
TBH i got used to the outline system and it didn’t bother me much but i can understand if people get confused because the outlines (example: You set enenmy outline to purple, a friendly with complete purple armor walking around the corner and you shoot immediately, it happens if you are new to the system)
I totally adhere to the elimination of enemy outlines … but as an insatiable purist I had to offer an RvB variant in correlation with their battle pass

Wait… what does Red vs. Blue have to do with a battle pass lmao. In correlation means that it goes along with it, or that they are related.
Battle pass = Red v Blue? uhhhhhh that would be a very strange reward
It would be cool if you could select two coatings at a time. One for allies and the other for enemies. This would help reenforce the outline system–having allies appear as cool colors and enemies as warm. Then if players want to turn off or down outlines there is still a hard (non-HUD) target acquisition underneath. And this really doesn’t limit player expression. It just offers an additional option.

I think it would work even better if the game wasn’t F2P, people could just pick their own colors, and the wheel didn’t have to be reinvented.

when you say “people could just pick their own colors” it’s for team/ enemies colors or personal color for his spartan?
I think that the option to turn on team colors can really make everyone happy. I didnt really care about the change but judging by how many threads exist about this maybe it would help to make a 4v4 team colors mode and yada yada.
I’m a firm advocate for moving on from the RvB system. In Halo 5, I found exactly the look I want for my Spartan, and in most modes the colors I chose for him are overridden for red and blue settings that aren’t even necessary to distinguish friend from foe. In CE, where color customization wasn’t as in-depth, the RvB system was good, and I appreciate it for what it’s done for Halo up to this point, but I and many other people want to show off what our characters look like.
This being said, I wouldn’t mind some changes to the outline system. I personally like the way they are now, but removing them from enemy Spartans wouldn’t ruin my experience at all.

The problem with removing outlines on enemies is that everyone would choose a dark coating that blends into the background better. Nobody would use pink or orange or lime green etc. coatings because you would be at a disadvantage. You already see this in other Halos where most people are dark grey in ffa and infection. The outlines make everyone equally visible, therefore making every coating equally useable.

Your argument is inherently flawed in that you assume ffa behaviors would transfer to team modes and that most players (if not all) make customization selections based on optimal strategy rather than preference. I see you’re point but OP is suggesting forcing team colors on the client side so those sweat lords rocking all black wouldn’t be a problem anyways.
Thank you ! this debate derives from the outline player system.
I just wanted to start a debate concerning a customizable RvB option, with the colors that we will have unlocked (and choose) with the progression system.

good point man, never thought about that.
With your argument in mind, i like the outline-system a bit more now. But if 343i make RvsB an option i wouldn’t be sad either.

I understand what the OP is saying and it’s an interesting idea but I was replying the person suggesting outlines be removed. If your coating is seen in team modes choosing a coating strategically is an issue regardless of if it’s a team mode or ffa. My point is that less noticeable coatings shouldn’t give you an advantage and outlines fix this problem.

Also forced team colors. Or condensed selections for what enemies see.

Sure but the current system allows for more player expression and more microtransactions so I don’t see 343 adding forced team colours as an option.

> when you say “people could just pick their own colors” it’s for team/ enemies colors or personal color for his spartan?
I mean just having a color wheel to pick personal colors for my spartan, like I’ve done since 01.
It being “free to play” makes no difference to me, it’s still $60. It’s just a cash grab, anyone who would have bought it will still pay $60, plus now they’ll try to get those same people to pay just to get a decent color selection.
Opacity slider for friendlies, disabled outlines on enemies, would be ideal for me as said above. The outline color overriding the shields is actually the one thing that bugs me a bit.
Also I still feel like it’s weird to argue about “unfair advantage” when choosing colors that would help conceal one’s position in a fight. This would all just be preference. Sure a lot of people go for black or dark colors but most of the time this has nothing to do with tactical advantage, just what someone thought looked good on their character. I could slap on bright yellow mjolnir and still stomp my way to victory. I think everyone is just so nitpicky with it and now 343 implimented this outline system and it feels just super “hand-holdy”. I understand and really do appreciate the developer’s strive for inclusion and accessibilty for those who need it, but immersion should be a tad bit more realized.
I would like to see the idea replace the outline system with Team 1 and Team 2 being customizable so you are never always Blue. I’m not going to lie, I despise everything about the outlines. I don’t believe player expression should be prioritized over gameplay and the intro and outro sequences provide enough opportunity for players who want to express their Spartan. During gameplay, I want to easily distinguish friend from foe without having them glow like the sun and not hesitate to shoot a red Spartan because I am also playing as a red Spartan.
