So I was playing Halo 3 Multiplayer just for kicks, and really noticed how much i kept trying to run. Don’t get me wrong halo 3 is still awesome. But it got me thinkin whether or not we will ever get another halo title without a running function. I can’t see myself playing as the Arbitor again within the new halo engine.
So what do you think? Did the inclusion of running, ruin or evolve the halo franchise?
i know what your mean when i was playing Halo 3 campaign today i kept pressing the “X” button (i use recon on Halo 4) and it annoyed me when i couldn’t sprint i hate and love it at the same time its weird. I enjoy it for getting to destinations quickly but it sucks when enemys can easily runaway
To tell you the truth I don’t mind it at all so I wouldn’t care if it was in future titles
Walking really fast without sprint just feels so Halo, you know?
I’d prefer without sprint, but I dunno…
Recon FTW
Halo CE-3 work well without sprint or armor abilities.
With armor abilities, sprint should be kept. If 343 keeps going with the armor abilities in future Halo games (which they probably will), then sprint should be kept.
It’s a love/hate relationship, although the game works with and without it so whatever.
Also it only works when your running forward, so wouldn’t the player have been able to escape anyway? He wasn’t facing you and it helps in closing the distance, especially for assassinations.
yep. really wish they would bring back guardian, but it will NEVER be the same. Played a reach remake and a halo 4 remake and almost cried(not really). Also i don’t care how much you can tweak the settings, it won’t feel “classic”.
Well its hard to take something out once its put it, but just remember dual wielding…they took that out easily enough.
Yeah, like i’m gonna believe that Master Chief can randomly forget how to dual wield
Sprint dumbs down gameplay. Most non-causal halo players would agree sprint is bad for halo
I liked Sprint as an armor ability but I really don’t like how everyone can sprint now…
I remember playing H3 after playing Reach for a while and wondered why the hell the game was so slow.
Overall though, I would have to say it is a positive.
Everyone having Sprint just means all maps must be utterly different to how they used to be in H1/2/3 and even Reach. Personally in-game I like having infinite sprint but I also appreciate that because of that the maps have suffered massively.
When H1 was released Bungie were praised for re-invigorating the FPS with a sharp focused game that only allows you two weapons, fixed number of grenades, fixed movement speed and jump height and a consistent shield/health system. In comparison H4 has none of this focus or gameplay-focused rules, and we’ve now got a game that feels bloated and strained, with no focus and no edge.
Gimmicks seem to be the flavor of Halo right now, and I don’t see 343i ever cutting it back to the original formula.
I think a permanent sprint is useful for campaign missions or SpOps for covering ground a lot quicker but I’m mixed for multiplayer. Sure, it speeds things up, but it’s gotten to the point where when I start to shoot someone, they immediately start sprinting to cover. It makes it easier for them to get out of a bad situation that they got themselves into. Maybe it should an AA in multiplayer, but permanent in campaign or SpOps missions. Or better yet, just take it out.
People who play Halo are so easily TRICKED into thinking we need sprint.
The developer makes the normal movement speed so slow (like default Halo 3) and thus people think sprint is so necessary.
All we really need is 110 or 120 default movement speed and there would be no need for sprint. But hey spartans can’t really sprint and shoot for a full 12 minutes right?
The sprint, the function that Halo should of had at the beginning. I have always wondered why CE never had it. Maybe a lack of a button for it, but 2 should of had it. First time I found sprint in a game then played Halo I had the thought that the game is too dang slow.
The lack of sprint and the stupid descoping really killed my want to play Halo for the longest time (ODST to H4). Both made no sense for super soldiers. Also the weapons just left around a level, I really like the idea that they are fired to the ground from orbit.
Anyway, Sprint is great even if I have to play whack a mole with my sniper rifle.

This is another good point, sprint helps in campaign and SpOps, but having it in MM is causing players some grief. Perhaps making it an AA again would work out the best.
Sprint enables “rush in” gameplay which is for the most part, mindless. So it is fairly obvious that the causal player would love and attach them self to this feature.
It’s just another thing added to Halo to appeal to the masses.
was playing halo 2 at my friends house the other day. it reminded me how much i hate sprint in halo just because maps are so much better without it imo eg the lockout remake on halo 4 doesnt work even have as well as the halo 2 version well i think anyway. -Yoink!- i wish they just upped the movement speed instead of experimenting with sprint in reach then it probably wouldnt be in halo 4

Totally agreed, man. Sprint has ruined maps/remakes/all future maps forever. Also Jetpack ruins things as well. Halo = ruined.
The only gametype that sprint actually benefits the game is in BTB, since the maps are already huge. In 4v4 and 2v2, sprint just promotes the awful dynamic of linear aggression. This dynamic is often mistaken for fast paced gameplay. While it is fast paced, it’s so chaotic and so structureless that any concept of strategy is destroyed.
