Rumors of 2022 Launch - Why it’s False

There’s been a rumor spreading about Halo Infinite possibly being delayed until 2022. Honestly it could happen if worse comes to worse, but here are the reasons why I’m almost certain it won’t be.

  • Inside Infinite has confirmed a Fall 2021 release window. We already know that it’s coming out this Fall. One of the major things, I think, contributing to this rumor is that we have no specific date. I’m hoping we get one during E3, but what is it with 343? First Fall 2020, then Holiday 2020, now Fall 2021. It does make you wonder why they haven’t released a specific date. - The game is content complete, they’re just polishing it, according to Inside Infinite. Joseph Staten said the game is “content complete” meaning their isn’t much major work to be done. It’s the final stage, bug fixing/tuning. They don’t need a whole year to finish this stage. That’s why I think this rumor of “2022” as Halo Infinites release is deceiving. I totally expect us to have our hands on it this Fall.

I wouldn’t mind if it does get delayed again till 2022. They should release it only if they feel comfortable enough. Because you only get one chance at a first impression.

We’ve already waiting this long, I could totally wait longer if it means that we avoid what happened to Halo 5 at launch, with significant modes entirely missing from the game.

I want post-launch content to supplement what’s already there, not make up for what’s missing

I agree that ambiguity can create fertile ground for rumours sot spread and as 343 supplies more information we will know our answer in time regardless. I hope there are any forces pressuring anyone to rush anything or oversell their progress.

Not to mention the MCC launch which was functionally broken at launch and took several years just to get to the point that it should have been at.

I am looking forward to hear the next updates from 343 Industries especially when it comes to the release date for Halo Infinite.

I would welcome another delay knowing it will make for a better game.
This is such an important game for 343 and for Microsoft that they should make something truly spectacular. Especially in terms of gameplay. I hope they invest in creating the most fun and satisfying Halo to date in terms of campaign and coop modes.

A game is never completely finished. They will not spent this year just “polishing and tweaking” They will be working on it in from all departments. The campaign itself can become much, much better with one more year or 2. Just think about all the cool moments and missions they can do with one more year. Finally having the tech for that giant vehicle enemy, getting the AI to be able to have some more behaviors that let them interact in a way that can make a new level shine. Adjusting the grappleshot to be a bit faster and have better inertia, pulling grunts to you and not you to them, and adding more oportunities for the grappleshot and other equipment throughout the campaign levels. And countless other features and changes that would make the game better.

Think about the previous demo they showed. The campaign mission itself was very unepic and did not have any cool moments or wow moments. Compare it with Halo 1 demo of the silent cartographer, Halo 2 incredible demo of the city, packed with cool stuff. For an E3 you always show the section that looks best and has the greatest impact, for obvious reasons. So I am sure they are taking this time to make a much better campaign.

I can’t wait but I would be happy if they took even more time to make it all click.

I don’t mind as it gives me more time to try and nab a Series X.
In all seriousness, I imagine it probably won’t be delayed - as mentioned, 343 have confirmed that the game is “content complete” for launch and that the current delay until end of 2021 is for polishing, bug fixed, and graphical work.

Personally I’m not really buying into this narrative at the moment. I can’t see the game being delayed at this time.

From the gameplay demo to the screenshots been shown recently you can see the progress made in a matter of months. With another 8-9 months until release there’s still plenty of time to get the game up to scratch for launch and if need be put together a day one patch too.

When we see another gameplay demo this summer and get hands on in flights that’ll be a much better indicator on if the game needs another delay or not.

I do feel like a lot of news outlets hear one story and just keep spinning it to fear monger.
Until there’s evidence of the game getting delayed I’m taking everything with a grain of salt unless it comes from 343i themselves.

The whole rumor stems from a vague response to one tweet about both Halo Infinite and Starfield. It’s not clear which one the response is talking about, but I’d wager they meant starfield. Bethesda has barely shown anything from that game, meanwhile 343 has said Infinite is content complete.

No way that it’s going to be delayed again

As others have said, it’s content wise complete. Just graphics and bugs fixing for a year. Plenty of time to make it shine as best as it can be.

Wouldn’t be suprised if other 343ers are already working on post launch content

I agree 100%. It always baffled me how many people praised the post release content that H5 got, when most of it was just adding back missing content that should have been there day 1

The rumor exists because an insider said “idk about that” as a reply on Twitter to someone saying something along the lines of “at least Halo and Starfield are coming out this year”. I have a feeling it was directed towards Starfield as that doesn’t even have a release window. In my opinion it wouldn’t make sense to release Starfield and Halo around the same time because as Bethesda is first party now, you’d essentially be competing with yourself.

I doubt Infinite will get delayed again. At this point 343 has likely gone back through the campaign and fixed things that were pointed out in the gameplay reveal trailer and are currently polishing what they have made and working on content for post launch updates and DLCs for their 10 year plan.

Very astute analysis. Agree 100%

If Infinite needed it I’d support a further delay 100% but no indication of that at present
