Rumor: OXM: Xbox 720 Launching in 2014 with Halo 2 Anniversary

Do you think it can happen?

Please no halo 2 anniversary:

  1. it was meant for 10 years of halo as well as CE
  2. it means they’ll have to do a halo 3 anniversary

Its probable it could launch 2014, enough time to milk kinect.

No it won’t. What is the need for a Halo 3 anniversary when Halo 2 had terrible graphics and Halo 3’s graphics are still better than games coming out right now?

Most people want the Halo 2 campaign remade in HD. I hope this is true. I also think the new Xbox will come in 2013 rather than 2014.

> Please no halo 2 anniversary:

Don’t buy it.

Irrelevant.

No, it doesn’t.

I would love to see a Halo 2 remake anyway. That game was beyond words and it made a lot of history for competitive players that milked the Bxr=BB and power bounce techniques… <3

Also the ridiculous noob combo made it’s way with dual weapons Pistol/Plasma pistol! <3

I would want to see a Halo 2 Anniversary as well. I think 343i did a great job with the first, plus Halo 2 was one of my first games I played (along with CE), so nostalgia is a huge factor. Plus, it was just an amazing game (minus the cliffhanger…)

Halo 2 Anniversary would be nice, though I don’t know if I’ll be getting the new Xbox in 2014 when it releases, as my plan was to get it in 2015, perhaps alongside Halo 5, to save money.

honestly i believe the next xbox will be november 2013. the reason for this is they will not want the wii u to outperform it and thus lose money to nintendo. Even though the stats of the wii u are only remotely higher than the 360 everyone like to have the cutting edge graphics. And most people dont like PC gaming anymore due to the problems with syncronisation and lag of multiple different systems trying to link together, whereas the only variable in a console game online is the internet connection.

I’d like to see it happen. However, I’m wondering just how it will interfere with Halo 4.

With Halo 4 coming 2012, and Halo 5 now speculated at 2015… that means we’ll have a 3 year span between 4 & 5. Should be no problem as long as 4 turns out to be a solid title, and is supported.

I hope it runs the same way as with Anniversary that the multiplayer maps are just DLC for Halo 4, as I would really like to not split the online community between Halo 4 and Halo 2: Anniversary.

Honestly, we all have great memories of Halo 2 online… but do we really want to return to the same multiplayer we had 10 years ago? (from the speculated launch)

Question posed by GrimBrother ONE as he paces back in forth in my living room -

Let’s say Halo 2A comes out in 2014, 2 years after the release of Halo 4, and also comes out on the next Xbox. What do you do for multiplayer?

Do you develop Halo 4 maps, in the “older” engine, and develop the game in the nextbox engine? Do you simply forget about multiplayer and focus on the campaign?

Wouldn’t it be like CEA and be two different things? While H2A would be on NXTBox, I’m assuming that Live accounts and backwards compatibility would work, allowing H4 content to play on it. If that’s the case, just remake the maps in H4 engine, and “port” the game on its own.

I don’t see the H5 engine being too different from the H4 one, so it shouldn’t be hard to do what’s necessary for the port, but it’s more of a waiting game to see if it really happens.

@Lycan Xlll
It’s another Xbox. Better spec means better graphics. There’s no doubt that the engines will be different.

If they made a Halo 2 Anniversary, I wouldn’t mind if they substituted any multiplayer for some of the content that got cut to make the release date originally. I’d love to be able to play some of the parts they talked about that got cut due to time constraints. Plus the updated graphics would look awesome.

I would love a Halo 2 remake as its the game that got me into online gaming. But with that said i dont want those memories spoiled but a remake.

I want this to be true, so -Yoink!- much. I <3 Halo 2. It’s not my favourite game, ever, for nothing.

How by any sound logic is his post irrelevant, when the whole reason Halo Anniversary was greenlit and created… Was. The. Anniversary…? If you don’t believe that then watch some of the initial HCEA vidocs.

I’m sooooooooooooooooo confused with people who think an H2 remake would come with H2 multiplayer.

They don’t have to Anniversary Halo3 as it’s on the 360 and the 720 will likely be backwards compatible to allow Halo to carry over without the need for more Anniversaries.

H2A would be awesome and it would have a small but hardcore following of the MP if it too was included.
(It’s the blacksheep in my Halo series but for that, it has a place in my heart, unlike R6:Lockdown which is forever a bannished from the flock)

oh R6:Lockdown… Had I might of had a chance to judge you if only your Legacy Control scheme didn’t ship broke and take 2+ months to patch…

> I’m sooooooooooooooooo confused with people who think an H2 remake would come with H2 multiplayer.

Indeed. I don’t see how they could keep 1:1 parity with an old Xbox version of the Halo engine. Realistically it would take a lot of resources, and there is always the threat of fracturing a healthy player base. Honestly I’d be fine if Halo Anniversary is the only anniversary edition they make. It was released to celebrate the release of one of the most influential games of the decade, leave it at that and concentrate on making Halo 4 and subsequent games the best they can be.
