It’s rather simple. I know that there’s a rule that indicates that there should be no bumping nor necro-posting.
However I have a some questions about that. I’d be glad if a moderator or someone well-informed could answer them.

What is considered “necroposting” in terms of time?
-
If I couldn’t be active for some time, then see a post I want to respond to in a certain thread that has become unactive, is it “bumping”?
Thanks in advance!
Not too sure about your 1st one.
But your 2nd question should be fine assuming it’s relevant to the post. They try to filter all the same threads asking the same question into 1 so as far as i’m aware it should be fine.
Speaking for myself, I take into account context. If you’re responding to something with an actual answer (ie, not “I like unicorns!”), I’m totally okay with that. Basically as long as it’s substantial, I don’t have a problem with it.
There are exceptions, of course, but again, I usually take those on a case by case. Example - one of the map creators bumped his poll thread in MM and I’m letting that stand because he is looking for maximum votes in his thread. He’s not bumping his thread so people can see his thread that has been covered a hundred times before.
Clear as mud?

Agreed with the 2nd, as long as you have something relevant to post, you should be fine.
Also, as long as you don’t bump a heated thread, or a thread that is really old, like more than 4 months.
1st one, necroposting is kind of the same as your 2nd question, if you bump a very old thread, then it tends to be annoying.

Dude, I love unicorns.
Lol.
But I think I understand. You wouldn’t want like this one thread to end up on top of the others a million times for no reason at all, moreover when there is no more being discussed that contributes to the topic (more or less) and that it has become irrelevant.
Hope I got that right. Anyhow, thanks for answering peeps!

Basically. With some exceptions, most threads are covered several times over a week so there’s no need to necro a thread that’s a month old for no reason. Examples:
Acceptable, IMO
Not acceptable
For the most part though, we realize that not everyone has the time to be online every day so if you can’t post for a few days but are vested in a topic and have something useful to contribute when you get back that hasn’t been covered already, by all means.
Gotcha! Thanks for taking the time clear things up. It’s much appreciated!
No problem, happy to help! You can always PM me if you need to as well. I keep weird hours (and even weirder for me lately) so odds are, I’m around if you need questions answered.
So, it’s okay to bump my really old post about the DMR and the Poll? I can’t find it anymore… I already put over 400 replies.

No. I’m pretty sure it isn’t. So don’t worry! I doubt it would be considered such a thing without being looked into. ^.^
