Rude Halo players

Why are they’re rude Halo players? I mean, not just in the online community, but it’s everywhere…I don’t get why do people think it’s ‘cute’ to insult someone over an opinion or something they don’t like? Anybody have that problem before?

Communities of older games grew up in different environment. If someone was insulting someone’s elses mom in arcades (where people were playing e.g. Street Fighter 2) or at the lan party (Quake, Starcraft, Counter Skrike etc.), that person would lose it’s teeth very soon. Even when internet gaming was beginning, players had to get to know each other and they had to have basic intelectual abilities to connect to server.

Halo 2 introduced massive matchmaking system that connects random, anonymous people and is so easy, that even kids can use it. This transfered further, as even mlg pros acted like awful brats (probably to gain favor of fans, who were awful brats themselves). However if you want to see something even worse, go to bungie.net, where these awful brats grow up and create gaming equivalent of -Yoink!-.

I don’t get people at times honestly, I mean, like over my opinion of not liking BRs and all, and calling the people who are dissing my opinion a troll. Yeah it’s okay for them not to like my opinion, but calling out is kinda messed up. If you seen my thread, you’ll see why I made a post like this.

Yaa… The Internet is a cruel place…

I don’t think it’s Halo players specifically, but as the others have posted, the anonymity of the Internet lets people feel temporarily invincible.

Still better than the COD community on the list.

Silver linings?

To be honest, lately we’re playing much more CoD than Halo with my gf. She usually has negative k/d ratio in both games, however it’s Halo players who are sending her messages with insults (where “noob” is mildest). I think it’s because Halo players are obsessed with this “competitive” thing (while CoD players are just more casual people) and their vision of being competitive derives from how MLG players used to behave in mid-2000s (and they used to behave like all these awful, annonymous Halo-kids back then). This transfers to discussions about the game:

“You like sprint? It’s because you’re noob and you know s… about competitive arena shooter!”

Lately I’m playing a lot of Killer Instinct, which is competitive to the max (with it’s mano-a-mano formula) and all messages I got this far was about praising for good fight and thanks (even though some players are literally destroying me). No “I killed you b…!” or “Tell your mom not to change lipstick so often because I have rainbow on my d…!” in there.

I just like to go CoD Search and Destroy with my friends and piss those kinds of people off on purpose. We feel no guilt because they’re usually all jerks. The circle of the middle finger, as I like to call it.

Usually people who act like jerks are insecure. I just ignore em out right and move on. Luckily, I’ve been getting to know a lot of cool people ever since I bought my X1 and Halo MCC a couple of days ago.

Have you seen my threads and why I posted something like this? I don’t even feel comfortable to be on multiplayer or even on here now.

I played more of campaign over multiplayer now because of jerks. And plus The forms are worse. They’re just tryhards & think that they know everything and thinking they’re always right. But when proven wrong, they wanna throw a hissy fit.

To be fair. Both communities have ups & downs. Any community has a bad apple. I thought that myself to be honest.

The -Yoinks!- of the community: “ughh spriinnnt i hatee it soooo mucchhh reach is the worst game ev3r !!!” In all seriousness, i think people who are rude -Yoinks!- to you are cowards that don’t have balls and cant say it to your face.

Just going to point out that some of the behavior displayed in this thread is pretty rude itself.

Halo is an extremely competitive game with even more competitive people, and when that adrenaline is pumping, sometimes the tone of people gets a little carried away. And for some reason, whenever a person thinks they are just the s***, they feel entitled to bash on everyone else who is not as pro as they are. I stopped playing with competitive people because I get so sick of the screaming because I missed a one shot or team shot or callout. I used to play with these kids in Halo 3 who used to be part of an MLG team, and they were very good, but they never took it seriously. We joked around and laughed the whole time or ran around with spikers, that’s how I like to play the game…just for fun. Unless people are seriously -Yoink!- me off, like the rude people. Obviously Halo isn’t the only game with jerks, but it seems to ignite a lot of anger for some reason. Just ignore it because the next game they will probably lose and will be put in their place because they can’t back up a single thing they say. 1v1 ME!! Yeah, whatever.

Remember all these teenage MLG players who were using trashtalk over Halo 2/3? I never seen such behaviour on Quakecon or EVO. It’s not Halo being competitive - it’s about all these poor kids (or growups) who think they’re more competitive if they behave like awful brats.

Has anyone ever non-seriously but competitively played a sport or competed before?

Trash talk is part of the game. Whether you’re playing Risk, fantasy football, FIFA, or recreational ultimate frisbee, there’s bound to be some trash talk.

You just need to be grown up enough to realize what to say in decent taste (there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed in trash talking), and you need to be mature enough to take it. Pretty simple.

I was playing Quake 1/2 as a teen. Maybe not on world-class level but I was lucky enough to play multiple times with players who later became top champions in my country and 3rd in entire Europe. There was pressure (especially on tournaments with prizes) and there was competition but if someone was ever talking like these Halo players (not only annonymous Halo kids, but even so-called MLG players), that person would be physically discharged from having full dentition.

As others said, it’s the interwebz, Internet anonymity will make the insecure, feel secure. So they go ahead and say stuff, then again some people like to argue, haha. But that doesn’t mean they have to be hostile about it.

If you want to play more campaign, I would be down! I play some multiplayer, but in a very casual way lol, not that competitive. you can add my gamertag, same as my profile. Usually play nights/late nights to the morning because of work.

I’ve added a few friends from the forums on here now cuz of talking and being polite to some.

That’s the only way to word frame this one… Waypoint is not the only place in the Internet that has this issue.
