Has anyone found a solution to seemingly random latency spikes and unstable connections? I can’t figure out if this is on my end and an equipment upgrade is needed or if this is all just 343s end. Im on xbox series x with 130mbps down and 10 up. Though, I see people on fiber complaining of the same thing so Im not sure its connection speed related.
First of all you need to do some basic fault finding and rule out any potential issues on your end…
Where are you based?
Are you using wired or wireless connection to your XSX?
If wired, are all your cables new and good quality?
If wireless, how far away from your router are you, could there be any interference within your property and how many other people and devices in your household are connected to your broadband at the same time as you’re playing?
Have you checked for packet loss and jitter on your broadband connection?
Me too, all day today
I’m in South Carolina, wired, and the connection shows no loss outside of infinite.

Well you could and should be connecting to any of 4 servers…Washington DC, Dallas, Chicago or Iowa. I see no reason why the game would be connecting you to Los Angeles or Seattle.
Has this been happening for weeks or just started happening? We all know the Halo Infinite servers and/or the game code are absolutely crap so it definitely points to the game and infrastructure if you’re certain there’s nothing wrong at your end.
I came here looking for a post exactly like this. I’m on east coast, 20ms ping and my last match it was rubber anding hard. Kinda annoying.
We live in a rural area of Australia. We experience every problem listed across the forum. I think we are in a situation, where we are simply not going to see any improvement. My whole family are playing the campaign, but as for the MP, we have all pretty much given up.
If I recall correctly, they completely ignored and disrespected the Australian player base in Halo5 too. 343i are incompetent and don’t learn from past mistakes.
On the X-Box, you do that test in settings. Just sitting here our X-Box has a latency of 180. That’s with it cabled. I don’t know what happens when we connect to a server to play, but I can only imagine it get’s worse.
You have 180ms latency in Xbox network settings without even being in a game? I believe that’s the connection to the XBL servers so it’s absolutely no wonder you’d be having a nightmare in Halo Infinite.
What is your broadband connection like on other devices? Have you fully tested your line, performed ping tests and asked your ISP to check for faults?
I’m pretty sure Dad has, but I will get him to read this post. Thank you !! ![]()
I feel the with amount of people having the same issue, there has to be something more to it.
Absolutely agree…but for @caitlinlannoy to be having 180ms latency in Xbox network settings then that tells me that’s there is a fault with their line and there’s no way you’d get a decent game of Halo online if that issue isn’t resolved first. I don’t know what connections are like in rural Australia and it may well be the case that they can’t get any better right now or other ISPs aren’t available, but it sounds to me that needs to be investigated first and foremost before we can blame 343i and the Halo Infinite servers in this particular case.
His case yea. But mine is east coast US. 43md ping on
Xbox test, 20-40 in game but in the bad games spikes to 150-180 plus during gunfights or jumping/sliding. One game it’s fine, next one unplayable.
I will absolutely get Dad to read this. I am a Beauty Consultant and not 100% with all this ![]()
Yes - it’s called a set of bumbling bonobos with keyboards masquerading as network developers/engineers. In less cathartic terms, it’s either due to piss poor net code, dog dukey infrastructure, or more likely a combination of the two. I feel justified in saying this as of the variety of fps games I’ve dabbled in over the past two weeks - Splitgate, Valorant, Planetside 2, and Holdfast - all perform without consistent network issues. Halo Infinite is the only game where, with 15 ms ping, I experience Latency and Packet Loss notifications which exacerbate the preexisting desync issue.
I don’t have sustained ping spike - every now and again I’ll jump to 1000+ - generally it’s short bursts where I’m notified of Packet Loss or Latency which persists for a couple of seconds. Regardless, the consistent instability of the networked component renders the whole multiplayer game unplayable: I don’t want to shoot craps on whether the Connection god will smile or piss on my match.
A big THANK YOU to everyone for the info !!
My Dad is typing from here on -
I have had technicians look at our problems 3 times over the last 8 months, to no avail. We are with Telstra, using the fastest plan we can get. ISP’s in Australia, use the NBN. The Government built the NBN, everything the government touches turns to crap, so there’s that. We are fairly remote and the lines run through a lot of open country. Therefore, a wombat digs a burrow, we lose internet, we have a bushfire, we loose the internet, we have a lot of rain, we loose the internet, a kangaroo does to big a hop, we loose the internet. We lost our internet connection at the beginning of last December. The technician drove out to our place and couldn’t find any problems here. In the end, he had to go all the way back into Wingham, a half hour drive and the problem was a pit full of water. I have turned off every device using internet in the house, except for the X-Box in the lounge room. It didn’t show any noticable improvement. While I had everything turned off, the lounge room X-Box shows 26 to 28 meg download and 6 to 7 meg upload, with a cable, it drops about a third of that on Wi-Fi. The latency shows 180. Unfortunately, I think the infrastructure has us behind the eight ball. I have noticed a few problems with MCC and 5, mainly playing co-op, even had a couple of disconnects. However, nothing like Infinite. Infinite has been a disaster for us. It is so frustrating, I couldn’t even be bothered finishing Tenrai or Cyber, it’s just far to frustrating. If we have to connect with a server in the U.S. or E.U., coupled with our connection problems here, what hope do we really have ? The thing is, we don’t even have mobile phone signal. We had to install a booster at the house and a booster at the back shed. Once you get about 50 metres away from either, you loose all signal. All our farm vehicles, except for quads and bikes, have two ways in them.
It does break my heart a bit, I’m not into footy, or soccer, or any sport really, like all my mates. I play Halo, that’s my escape. At least I have the campaign and the MCC and Halo 5 only play up a little bit, so we can still enjoy that.
Unfortunately it sounds like a combination of your circumstances, location, ISP and Halo Infinite servers/code is a recipe for a perfect disaster. If your line is subject to quality issues such as noise, packet loss, latency, jitter and prone to dropping out altogether then that is the first issue that would need to be resolved.
The only grain of consolation I can offer is that you’re not the only players in Australia experiencing these issues, but there’s not much I can say to help if your internet connection has a history of known issues and will continue to be problematic…and it’s totally unrealistic to move house or invest too much in broadband for a game! Sorry I can’t be of much more help.
