WHOS THE BETTER SHIPMASTER?
We don’t even know anything about Let Volir, that’s like saying The Rookie is better than Buck.
That is a great thing to think about though…I’d go with Rtas Vadum over Let Volir for now. Unless I learn of any of Let Volir’s achievements.
Well Let Volir isn’t much of a shipmaster anymore… Lost his ship to a single aged UNSC ship, admittedly using unorthodox tactics but still. Rtas Vadum beat a brute fleet 3 times his size. So Rtas has my vote.

We know he choked destroying the Spirit of Fire

Any covenant cruiser could destroy that hunk of junk, he failed.
Hm what category are we using, battle tactics? Personality? While everyone knows Vadumee was able to take on a fleet three times his own, we know almost nothing on Volir. We only know he destroyed UNSC ships during the war and was noted for a unique evasive and counterattack tactics. While yes he lost his ship, the following cutscene implies he wasn’t commanding it at the time.
We also are never told how many ships Vadumee lost to the flood at halo or how damaged his fleet was above the ark after the battle. We only know a single cruiser and his own ship lived and he wasn’t able to destroy all the jiralhanae enemy ships. Personality-wise would say a tie as both clearly care for those under them.
Rtas Vadum has more service record and experience but Let Volir has the Banished with him (also he lose his ship so…)

Think Volir may have the longer record and experience there. Vadumee was only a special operations commander before halo 3. Volir was a shipmaster during the war thus would need to have a lot of battle experience to get such a rank.
