I read through many posts regarding Rocket Race and the general feeling I get is that most “Rocket Race haters” seem to think it is a gametype for those who can’t compete in other game types. But I whole-heartedly disagree.
A different skill-set is indeed required to succeed at Rocket Race, this is true. The goal is not to KILL but to race, shoot, score, and stay on four wheels.
Having played every gametype in every Halo since the Matchmaking went online, I can honestly say, I think it is the most frantically competitive gametype there is.
And now with Rocket HOG Race those who love the classic have had to learn to shoot and drive again.
Many videos can be found online that showcase the skills needed to win. Rocket shots from across entire maps, rocket boosting your vehicle over obstacles to reach destinations, driving through a storm of rockets and explosions and still making the hairpin turn without flipping the vehicle and doing all of it faster than four or five other teams!
I understand those who claim it is not pure FPS gaming. It’s not. It’s pure none the less. I agree it should have it’s own playlist so as to not mingle with those who came to shoot and kill. In fact it was its own playlist that Bungie dismantled for no reason at all. But please don’t say it’s a game for the inexperienced. Because if you think so, then look me up online and I’ll give you a shot anytime. If it’s so easy you should have no problem winning a match… If you ask me, the simple FPS aim run and shoot is the easier game. Try and do all that while riding on the back of a Warthog or Mongoose, and don’t forget to keep your eye on the goal across the board.

I don’t think 343 would go out of the way to make it impossible to make said gametype as a custom if not in a playlist.
Making multiteam 3v3v3v3 was a really -Yoink- move on Bungie’s part as I know a lot of people liked 2v2v2v2 multiteam and Rocket Race.
Rocket Race is extremely popular, it’s why I avoid the multi-team playlist like the plague.
I love Rocket Race, but we have fans out there who want to get the classic Halo experience when they play and there have to be playlists out there for those people. If Rocket Race got popular enough, I’d be thrilled to see it with its own playlist, but as it is I believe it will work best in a mixed-bag playlist such as Action Sack.
