I’ve seen this reference many times, and am hearing right now listening to the podcast. 343 is saying that people who chose certain armour abilities will have disadvantages against people who have other armour abilities.
Let me get this straight. 343 wants to add Luck to the gameplay? This is just another form of bloom, where it’s all about luck and not about skill.
When was Halo ever been about not making the better player win? It doesn’t seem fair to me, how about you guys?
Let’s say the map is a giant open plain with spawn points everywhere for simplicity’s sake. Now imagine a loadout system that allowed you to choose your starting weapon from Shotgun, DMR or Sniper Rifle. Disregard Armor Abilities for the time being.
Rocks, paper, scissor gameplay arises when an encounter between two players is essentially decided before it even begins. If you choose the Sniper Rifle loadout and spawn very far from two players weilding Shotguns or DMRs, you would automatically win (kill them). If you choose the Shotgun loadout and spawn very close to two players weilding DMRs or Sniper Rifles, once again, you would automatically win.
The reason why rocks, paper, scissor gameplay discussion has arose as of late is due to the loadout system. Allowing players to spawn with different weapons or abilities introduces a factor of randomness that dulls down gameplay by making the encounters less dynamic and more predetermined (opinion).
And I don’t think the loadouts are going to be half as drastic as you guys think they will.
And even then there will be several playlists that don’t use these features.
I hope that they don’t bring back the radar jammer ability of the camo and other then that, even though I’m not happy about AAs returing, it looks like they’re handling them better then Bungie did with Reach.
Halo has always had Rock, Paper, Scissors encounters. I don’t know why this is new to anyone. Halo 3? I see you all posting why Halo 3 was so great but that game had rock paper scissors scenarios all the time. You didn’t know who had Bubble Shield, Power Drain, Regenerator, etc. so you always had to take a risk engaging with someone.
You can’t get rid of luck in any game. Luck is always going to play a factor while playing against other people whether you like it or not. Someone getting that lucky no-scope? Grenade stick? Random multi-kill on a group of people?
If you don’t want to play against other people that have unlocked a weapon before you did, go play Spartan Ops to earn points so you can unlock the things you want to unlock way before you even touch matchmaking.

> Basically, in simple terms, adapt.
Actually only in Reach and 3, and in Halo 3 it wasn’t to bad because the equipment was map pickup and were fairly easy to counter whereas with AAs everyone has one at all times and you can’t really do anything to counter someone who’s invis or using a jetpack for map control.
Also, Luck =/= RPS element.
