Robotech influence in Halo 4?

Anyone watch Robotech? Am I imagining things or does there seem to be a heavy Robotech influence?

Check out the following:

-The Flagship, Infinity, looks a lot like Breetai’s flagship.

-The giant mobile base truck is very similar to the GMU from Robotech: The Sentinels. It even has a main cannon(MAC).

-The new infantry helmet looks similar to the CVR/cyclone helmet.

What do you all think?

Robotech is old school…but surely some of your must remember it?

I just ran across this thread while googling Halo story using elements from Robotech. I watched the series a few years ago and saw the similarities but didn’t do a search on it. Now watching it again I thought I’d see if anyone else even brings it up. I didn’t see too much though there is a great deal of fanfic that bridges the two universes.

I noticed this thread only points out some of the visual similarities found between the two story lines. I thought I would just throw in a few of the more obvious plot elements that are quite similar.

Massive alien armada (Zentradi/Covenant) trying to take out sorely underpowered humans? Check.

Elite group of human fighters (Veritechs with pilots/Spartens with Mjolnir) are the only ones really capable of taking it to the aliens? Check.

Ancient civilization (Robotech Masters/Forerunners) is largely responsible for contemporary civilization? Check?

Human ship (SDF1/Pillar of Autumn) gets lost in space far away from earth? Check.

Attacking alien force (Zentradi/Covenant) eventually splinters into several factions with some living in tentative alliance with humans on earth? Check.

I’m not dissing on the Halo writers, after all pretty much everything is derivative of some previous work. One could argue that there is nothing truly original in fact. It just seems like the Halo story is just a redo of Robotech more than its own work. Which I don’t mind I guess, as I am a fan of Robotech to begin with.

It just seems so obvious when comparing the two, like the Halo writers used a great deal of Robotech as the template from which to build the rest of the story. Like, Robotech was a half decorated Christmas tree and The Halo writers just added some tinsel and a few more lights.

Meh, whatever. I love em’ both. But then, How could I not:)

I remember the robotech game for PS2, good times were had.

Which one? Invasion or Battlecry?

Never played Battlecry but Invasion had to be one of the best games on the PS2 ever IMO

Whoa, I really do see similarities.

Macross > Robotech

Just saying.

Had not really though about the story element similarities. Just some of the mecha and such.

It would be great if these were homages to the great Robotech series. (Sorry for re-animating a long dead thread but I just saw these responses!)

Necroposting in your own dead thread is still necroposting and is still against the rules. Please don’t do it again.
