RIP Halo 5 Playlists

https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/autumn-archives

Starting after the current playlist calendar - Halo 5 playlists will become static, and unchanging.
While this is incredibly sad, it’s not COMPLETELY a surprise. I’m sure they could’ve decided to at least do a rotation once a month instead of once a week, but oh well.
What IS surprising is what they’ve chosen, and what the haven’t chosen, as static playlists:

> Six years ago (almost to the day!) Halo 5: Guardians debuted. Week after week, season after season, the teams have worked tirelessly to keep things moving like a well oiled machine. However, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and, as such, I’m here to talk to you about Halo 5’s final playlist updates, which will happen after Halo Infinite launches later this year. While saying goodbye to our weekly playlist updates is certainly difficult, we feel we’ve hit a good balance for everyone who may want to play Halo 5 after Halo Infinite’s release.
>
>
> Our goal is to make sure that there’s a variety, that the playlists remain healthy, and that you have the ability to complete your in-game Commendations. When we launch Halo Infinite later this year, these are the playlists you can expect to find in Halo 5:
>
> SOCIAL
>
> - Quick Play - Super Fiesta Party - Big Team Battle - Big Team Super Fiesta - InfectionRANKED
>
> - Slayer - Team Arena - 2v2 Competitive - SWAT - Elimination - Free-For-AllWARZONE
>
> - Warzone Firefight - Mythic Warzone Firefight - Warzone Warlords - Warzone (Warzone will be the primary default with Warzone Turbo and Warzone Assault added in at a lower weighting)We will also be kicking off one final ranked Arena Season come December that will run indefinitely. We expect this to be the last playlist update for the forseeable future as our focus will primarily be on Halo Inifnite. That said, we will periodically re-evaluate the health of playlists to ensure we continue to have a good experience for players looking to play online.
>
>
> As a reminder, Ranked Free-for-all is currently available for the rest of the month. Not to mention the treat that is Double XP in Infection all month long. And next week, we’ll be rotating in the fan-favorite Castle Wars and the bombastic Warzone Turbo for the weekend!

The lack of Grifball as a static playlist isn’t surprising. But even that could have been mitigated by simply having Action Sack be a permanent playlist.
Instead - we get TWO Fiesta playlists???

Comment what you think about these playlist choices.

Oh, and while we’re at it - note that Mythic Arena (which was ranked) was the ONLY playlist that had an incarnation of Assault that would progress the Company Commendation, Tick Tick Boom. And that’s now locked out forever.

I feel like they should at least add action sack and head to head to the ranked and social playlists.

Couldn’t just let us have girfball. The only reason some of us even play halo 5 at all anymore.

first the companies. now this? is really much effort to keep the rotational playlists? looks like 343 doesnt care nothing about H5, they are toying with the players that still care about h5, if 343 will continue doing this is better to shutdown completely the servers

RIP Grifball

Halo MCC has the right to griffball and action sack, but no Halo 5 ? It feel like 343 is just insulting all Halo5 players !!! We don’t deserve so much disrespect !!!

This is it :frowning:

It is a shame that they can’t include every playlist in this list, but these modes have been permanent to the game for the last few years, so it seems pretty standard that these would stick around.

No more grifball or castle wars :frowning:

If you don’t want to play to it, nobody force you, but it’s a shame that 343 prevents gamers from playing it

They need to either make Core Play a permanent playlist or restore the original Team Arena playlist (i.e. what is now the Core Play settings, map rotations, etc. but what used to be Team Arena until about 2017 or so). That is the only playlist in the game that allows us to play objective game types (CTF, Strongholds, etc.) according to Halo 5’s original vision (e.g. splinter grenades, Ground Pound, Spartan Charge, automatics, etc.).

Additionally, they need to go back in to other playlists, like ranked Slayer, and remove the Forge maps. I understand why they added them at the time, but the truth is that the maps are not as good as 343-made ones and it’s time for them to go (e.g. Transit, Russet, Refuge, etc.).

Oh no! Please don’t return team arena to the original state. It’s the only playlist I can enjoy.

I hear you all.
I wish 343 did too.

Even a once a month rotation would be better than this.

Well, look at it from my point of view: I paid $60 at launch for a game that had certain features: ranked, 4v4, objective Arena game types (CTF, Strongholds) according to Halo 5’s original vision (Spartan Charge, Ground Pound, splinter grenades, radar, automatics, etc.), and then years later 343 stole that away from me and made it a rotational social playlist only available a measly few times per year. And they did this despite admitting that playlists with HCS settings led to decreased population counts. And now they’re permanently taking away the playlist entirely. That’s not fair to me and anyone else who bought the game at launch for similar reasons. Nevertheless, as I wrote in my previous post, I’d be fine with a compromise of bringing it back as a permanent social playlist instead.

Yes, sad that no featured playlists will be offered, even once a month. As mentioned previously in the above mentioned posts by others, it would be nice to have a once a month featured playlist for the weekend (or full week) showcasing the more popular rotating playlists that are especially advantageous to completing Spartan Company commendations. The aforementioned Grifball and Castle Wars playlist come to mind because those trying to complete Grifball Wins can only achieve it by playing Grifball, obviously. Plus achieving Offensive, Defensive, and Scoring medal for their respective commendations would be made easier if Grifball was still able to be played, in stead of relying on the Big Team Battle playlist rotation of Assault to be chosen. Of note, Melee and First Strike were also very good attributes of this playlist for completing commendations. Additionally, Castle Wars provided many opportunities for commendation completion. This is where the Cluster Luck commendation shone brightest. Hail Marys (for the Downtown and Melee commendations), Grenade Kills, First Strike, Ground Pound, Assassinations, Kill from the Grave, Melees, and also one of the rarest of rarest…Fastball. Castle Wars is extremely versatile in award possibilities. So yes, in my opinion, it would be nice if they could rotate into the mix at least during the peak times of year, such as the larger Holidays and extended weekends. Castle Wars was the only rotational playlists that i never had over a minute wait time to find a game. Everyone, have a great day. Stay safe, enjoy your day!

You take the words right out of my mouth.

But there is another commendation - Wins in Assault.

It’s impossible to complete, because assault doesn’t exist in 4v4 anymore, only in BTB. (It’s possible to make progression on it during Mythic Arena, but that will be gone now too).

So unless they change the commendation requirements to allow for BTB Assault wins - that’s another incompletable commendation.

This is the worst news yet as there goes my primary reason(s) to get online and game. I seek out Anniversary Throwback every time it returns (assuming I’m available to play). Now it’s going away permanently. Absolute garbage decision. It’s the best “Halo” experience available and my primary interest to play any Halo. Also, Core Play, ODST Slayer, Action Sack, and Mythic Arena will be greatly missed too. Quality experiences that will no longer be available. As I said, absolute garbage and why in the hell are they keeping Quick Play over Core Play if this is a final playlist lineup. Core Play would at least make a greater amount of maps & modes available within the social environment from the long-term perspective. I’m extremely disappointed. How about you invest some dang resources into this title again and implement a match composer that can allow for these rotational type playlists to remain available long-term?

I totally agree!

  • Swap out Quick Play for Core Play - Add Action Sack, and throw a few more game modes into it! - Add back 4v4 Assault somehow, or fix the Tick Tick Boom commendation to allow for 8v8 victoriesIf they did this - we’d all get something we need, and at least then Grifball would be around in some form!

I’m very disappointed that this is the FINAL playlist lineup.

Their line of “we’ll monitor playlist health periodically to ensure there is an optimal user experience” or whatever just translates to “there might be even less playlists later”.
It doesn’t really hint of a CHANGE so much as a future further reduction.

:frowning:

I’ve been out of the loop for a few months, so it’s sad to come back to this news. With the social playlists so lacking, I think it’s time I cleared up the hard drive space and moved on. It’s been a good run H5. I will miss you

Yeah I’m affraid people do that and then 343 say : “hey, look, nobody want to play to H5 anymore”
But it would be wrong ! People won’t want to play to Halo 5 because that been years 343 don’t take care of the game !

Truer words have never been spoken about Halo 5.

It’s fantastic. The neglect hurts.
