Riot Shield In Halo 4?

As I’m sure most of you have seen, 343 has added a shield of sorts to the arsenal of weapons in Halo 4. I haven’t seen much of this “weapon” in action, but I was able to catch a glimpse of it in MLG’s coverage of E3 and it seems fairly pointless. It really strikes me as about as effective as the Riot Shield in the Modern Warfare games. Does anyone have any ideas of the effectiveness of this item? Can it be busted like the regenerating shields we see though out campaign? Can we melee with it like in COD?

It is not like a Riot Shield at all. It lasts a few seconds, looks like it is breakable and can’t be meleed. I’m really getting annoyed with this kind of thing. I understand it’s natural to equate things with Call of Duty, but come on, CoD didn’t invent everything.

It could be used as a shield because it is a shield to help your teammates capture flags and things of that sort. You have a good point as I have no idea how it could work in Slayer. Also I am hoping there is no melee with that thing but Im sure I’ll be proved wrong because my luck isn’t that great.

As far as I know it’s just for defence with no offensive capabilities.
2nd, I’m 1 Polish Mother -Yoink-!

Your shields are taken down, you use the Jackal Shield (that’s what I’m calling it because I’ve been waiting 10 years for them!) while looking at the person firing you, retreat behind cover and let your shields recharge while looking out for grenades, commence another fight.

The Hardlight shield?

Here is what I’ve heard:

  • Hard Light Shield (its name) lasts for 7 seconds after you begin to use it, it can be destroyed, if attacked enough, before the 7 seconds are up.
  • Only provides protection to the front.
  • Susceptible to splash damage (from explosives).
  • Can be melee’d around.

Doesn’t look too useful.

It is a Promethean technology that is invincible for a few seconds, and cannot be used to melee.

All I know is this make me fullfill my name to an even greater degree.

It is similar to the Shield in Counter Strike.

I have also heard that it is really easy to bounce grenades under the front. The only thing I am expecting of using it for is for some awesome team coordinated phalanxing.

yes cod didn’t invent everything but they are one of the biggest known franchises and that alone is enough to draw reference to no one ever said it sucked or it was great they simply reference it as most people know about it.

Wow. Please, don’t let CoD ruin everything for every other developer, because if you can only compare features to CoD games, then it becomes obvious that you don’t have enough knowledge of the industry to know that Halo isn’t ripping off CoD.

It isn’t too useful up close since you move as fast as a player crouch-walking, and even slower than that if you are crouch-walking with it up. Pretty much useful for stopping instant attacks for a bit, but they’ll move around to kill you.

Get beyond a grenade toss and it’s much more useful.

Its too much the the Hylian Shield in The Legend of Zelda…

I don’t see it.

I never said that. I said it is an easy example to use because most people know about it. I agree there are a million other games out to compare halo too and they deserve credit but the average person won’t give credit to every thing that halo is similar to when they can just say one simple thing.

No I could see it having value in Capture the flag or bomb or team doubles.

Even though in this case…you know…Jackals shields.

Dear God did this deserve a thank.
