Ridiculousness

My backspace is messed up so forgive me for my spelling. But i keep seeing people say that the “classic” halo fans are a minority in respects to where the game needs to go. If that’s the case then one person needs to convince me as to why halo 1, 2, and 3 “true classic halo” games were able to keep millions for years, while halo 4 and halo reach couldn’t keep a solid 100,000 for less than one. When you can convince me why a game which loses its players within months of release (halo 4 and reach) would be a better than that of those that could keep millions for 3 years (halo 1,2, and 3), then you can say that “classic” players are a minority.

I bet killing off Cortana had something to do with it lol.
jk

No but seriously, think about it. All those games had Cortana.

It’s probably just because Multiplayer changed too much.

which is why it needs to go back in order to move forward. I don’t want a halo 3 clone, but what i do want is improvements made from that game and not these failing games.

I’m pretty sure most of the casual-competitive don’t even want the same multiplayer from Halo 4. The fact is that Halo 4’s MP satisfied neither side, which made it drop faster than a stone in a pond.

I am a classic player. i don’t think anyone can convince you halo 4 is better than halo 2/3 because it simply isnt.

It’s not just halo, most games these days have a lower average population than they used to, I’m not saying the changes have nothing to do with it, but a lot of people around here exaggerate their effect.

not within the first couple months though. i hear what you’re saying though. but the an improvement from true halo would have far and i mean far greater number than these

Add to this an easy to obtain max rank with double exp all over and BAM the pop count will dive in the first 1-3 months of release.

exactly! in halo 3 for three years the highest i got was colonel.

> Add to this an easy to obtain max rank with double exp all over and BAM the pop count will dive in the first 1-3 months of release.

Nonsense.

It’s a question of entertainment value of the gameplay that keeps people playing the game, not some things people can max out or unlock.

When the gameplay is highly entertaining/addictive people will play the game and stick to it.
When the gameplay is not entertaining some rank won’t help you to keep the people playing it since they won’t have any fun maxing it out in the first place.
Simple as that.

I dis-agree 50%. Personally I agree but, this proves true with BF (for the most part) CoD and other games that have max and I forgot H:R gets picked up because they want to hit max rank. I understand what you are getting at BUT for the majority max rank means they are done.(I do not mean majority as in Halo players I mean that as modern players as a whole.)

a good true skill ranking system gives it even more value which is mainly why i support true skill. rank needs to mean something other than a collection of points. you should both be able to attain the highest as well as lose the highest

Well, personally I am done with a game when it does not entertain me anymore, but not because I “completed” it.
And I think that the majority follows a “completionist-mentality” is quite controversial.

So you are going to tell me H4 (infinity) would have been more entertaining/enjoyable or rather would have been able to keep a significantly higher population when we played it with a proper skill based ranking system from day one?

As much as I am advocating for a proper skill based ranking system as well, though likely for different reasons, I really cannot agree with that.

Swift, I feel the same way about games! ^.^

P.S I do not think it is totally fair to bring I.S up, it is bad and everyone know it.

I think it is completely fair since Infinity are Halo 4’s default settings.
And afterall my point was that people won’t play to reach some max rank when playing itself isn’t fun.
And “playing itself” means playing with Infinity settings here.

sigh You win. (I love H4 but I never liked slayer and I HATE I.S) I kinda just play CTF ( I really hope H5G has a ctf playlist, I want more ctf variants though.)

The offer back then was nothing compared to today’s xbl shooter. Back then there was h3 and…and…um nothing comes to my mind
Idk if there was already a CoD or BF but they just weren’t as popolar as nowadays.

Due to a larger number of FPS’s and games in general.

False.

When Halo 3 came out in 2007 Modern Warfare (the original) came out as well. Both games were huge and super fun to play. They were my two favorite games that I invested days upon days into and it was often a struggle to figure out which I liked more (Halo 3 won in the end but MW is still my all time favorite Call of Duty). Halo had its competition back then and didn’t come out with a full game until Reach which is when it started to decline as Call of Duty continued on the formula that world so well in MW.

Obviously you wouldn’t know, because you didn’t game back then. Halo 3/2 had much competition, but they won. Call of Duty is from 2003, I think?

Counter Strike have kept the same formula for 10 years and it’s still going strong with over 100k players online every moment.
