I’m not trying to start any conflict at all, that is the last thing I want. I just want to put out a perspective I really haven’t seen on the series. Halo is absolutely amazing, we all know this. However, there are those I’ve come across that have said that Halo is anti-religion. They say that the Covenant is supposed to represent the major religions around the world. They feel that the franchise makes a religion being made up of legions of people blindly following what they’re told. They said that this says those of a belief system are foolish and aren’t that intelligent, being easily manipulated. A big issue they have is that Prophets are lying to the followers and manipulating them, with the faith being a lie, thinking this is Halo saying the heads of the different religions are leading everyone on, and that it’s all bs. They argued that the Covenant leading a religious war to kill non-believers is criticism of the major faiths killing those who don’t follow their faiths. This is an interesting look at the series, however, that’s not how I see it at all. I see it as not blindly following what you’re told. It has nothing to do with religion, but any sort of establishment that you’re told to trust and follow simply because those in power are always right. What do you think about this?
I think that one way or another, this topic will lead to a discussion about (real world) religion, which is not a discussion appropriate for Waypoint because it’s so polarizing, and polarizing topics often go way off course. Gonna preempt that from happening.
