Reviving Old Threads

I am so confused as to why 343 would rather have us create dozens of the same thread rather than reviving the old ones to keep the discussion alive.

Not sure why myself. Maybe because they feel that the treads have filled the needs to the questions asked. Or they feel that the thread has run its course. If they did let us, it might show that some problems are still there and are relevant.

message a mod and ask, I assume it has to do with intense ancient arguments being revisited among other things.

On other forum websites, threads are given a page or post limit, and then a monitor locks it once it hits that limit. Which doesn’t stop people from creating a “part 2” thread. But, yes, I agree that sometimes it can seem a silly rule to dissuade us from using an old thread to continue a conversation.

However, it is also a rule that we are not allowed to talk about why monitors do what they do here. I won’t be surprised if this thread gets locked.

I’d argue it’s because the thread is no longer active. It died out, and it did so for a reason. Not to mention, if you start the discussion again, there’s a high chance none of the old participants will ever know it got revived. They have little to no chance of answering.

Also, it’s worth noting that old threads generally are reliant on old information that may not be up to date.

So it’s often better to start a new fresh thread for those who wish to participate than to bump an old thread that ran its course, and try to start the discussion again.

Because otherwise people would complain they don’t have the choice to make a new thread

Naqser’s reply is pretty much on point.

If a thread is a month old or longer or you have to search for it to find it, then it’s probably not worth bringing back. A lot can and will change in the Halo Universe in that time so what was mentioned in the first few posts might no longer be relevant. I often find that people don’t read past the first few posts as well, so rather than reviving an old topic and potentially confusing users with old, outdated or mis-information, it’s better that new topics are started with fresh conversation. You can of course reference an old thread in your new one.
