Revival of Customs

What was really absent, for me, in Reach were the amount of Custom Games that I was able to get into and enjoy. Halo 3 really introduced us to this amazing new game mode, but, in Reach, nothing really innovative was presented about it, so many people didn’t play Customs.

This is the case for my friends list.

Halo 4 needs to revive Customs and bring them back to their former glory. They need to be innovative and extremely fun and entertaining, an escape from the competitive world of Matchmaking. I want Customs to be a new and unique experience every time I play them, just like they were in Halo 3.

I remember I used to go onto Halo 3 every single day for two years and get into a sixteen player Custom Games, but, now, that never happens any more. It mit just be my friends, or it actually may be the comminity itself, but I really want Customs to refain their foothold in Halo games, and Halo 4 should attempt to do just that.

I’m sorry if there are spelling errors. It’s one in the morning and I’m half asleep.

I found in my friends list that the lack of custom games interest was partly due to the fact that Reach tried to bring in a more casual audience. In my case, some previous Cod players tried it (on my friends list) and they either had no interest in customs at all, or no knowledge on how to download cool maps and/or gametypes. They also had never experienced custom games in Halo 3.

customs arent dead buddy, I play customs every day
and I know when I hit inheritor im going to be playing a lot more of them.

ya Halo 2 made several custom game modes that infact made you better at multiplayer but also were the foundations of H3 custom games like zombies. HR zombies felt sadly pathetic and they didnt even have an alpha zombie. it just shows they were more caught up in the MP and taking over in MP they really forgot about custom. they need to realize that, besides campaign, that MM and Custom, custom games forge FF etc, need to be 50/50 par. HR it was too much about MM. thats why ithe 3 part thing about my level/rank simplified, banhammer fixes, and achievments. it would still give people the same play but little easier and shorter so people have time to enjoy the Custom while the next halo is being made. HR had good customs but with so many people caught up in MM because you got special rewards while CG you got nothing and barely any credits it gave people no incentive to try the customs at all. Bungie put in efort for custom FF and not many people took advantage of that except for boosting challenges and achievments.

I once stood in your shoes, OP. I played H2 customs nonstop, but when H3 rolled around, I hardly touched them. As it turns out, though, you just have to find the right crowd. I thought customs were virtually dead in H3. I budded my way into a new group of friends who had similar gametype interests to my own. Needless to say, this group carried over into Reach, and I’ve still had great customs reminiscent of my Halo 2 glory days. I don’t think there’s much else they can do, though. With a map editor and VERY customizable options for a console game, they’re hitting their limits. New gametypes will help, sure, but unless you have an innovative group to make up new fun, you won’t be satisfied.

WHOA WHOA… wait just a second. I’m all for reviving custom games and putting it into matchmaking but:

Every single person I know who has reach either has played custom games or still does. It’s on of the few things that keep reach alive. Also nothing innovative?? okay i’m just gonna give you a link:
