Revamp the kill notifications

People get annoyed by the constant overlapping text (especially when long gamertags are used) reporting that “x was killed by a y headshot” (link to a forum thread), and was wondering how we could streamline the whole thing.

I dunno about the rest of the community, so I’ll leave this open to suggestions - Here are my ideas for it anyway:

<player a> headshotted <player b> (resolves the “with a headshot” overlapping text on reticule with non-sniper rifle weapons)
<player a> pummeled <player b> (Double-pummel kills)
<player a> assassinated <player b> (I think this is already as a Halo Reach notification)
<player a> ninja’d <player b> (A single back-smack kill that isn’t an assassination>
<player a> splattered <player b>
<player a> headshot sniped <player b>
<player a> bodyshot sniped <player b>

etc, you get the point. Basically the “<player a> <did something to> <player b>” formula would compress the notification to only show up information of whatever “player a” did to “player b” between the two gamertags.

I’d like to see the notifications taken out completely. While it seems useful in theory, I have never once altered the way I was playing because of something I read in the kill feed. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever actually read it during a game; I’m far more likely to watch other people’s overhead indicators in order to judge where I might be needed on the battlefield. Plus, more screen room is always a good thing.

Or if possible an option to set between “detailed notifications” to “simplified notifications” so that those who play on a 4:3 non widescreen screen have the option to play with simplified kill notifications, and give the option to those who have widescreen monitors to have detailed kill notifications.

Possibly even a “detail level” where you drag a bar from the left to right - dragging the detail level of kill notifications (in the option screen) all the way to the left disables kill notifications altogether, the next click to the right disables all kill notifications save for when you get killed by something, THEN it reports to you who you were killed by and how, and dragging it all the way to the right gives you the Halo Reach “with a headshot” kill notifications detail.

I like this idea. As always, the best solution is simply to give players more choice.

While I have never come across this problem myself, what about using weapon blue prints instead?

Example:
Player A <Assault Rifle blue print> Player B
Player C <Cone blue print> Player D

Agreed that something has to be done with the length of such notifications,

HOWEVER, this notifications have indeed helped players’ gameplay significantly.

Take for example, “Y pummeled Z.” This immediately allows all players to know that their teammate died on their X, and there is at least one enemy player in that immediate vicinity.

Hard to say where the line should be drawn though.

I second this. I personally like the kill feed and have found it to be useful at times, but I understand that it annoys others.

A detailed one is the best.

Replace gamer tags with service tags in the feed.

No carse dis eesnt cawd

You had me confused for a moment there. No, CoD isn’t the only one that does the “card cutout of a weapon” for the kill nofication - Counter Strike did it too.
