Returning weapons, ideas and requests?

I don’t know about you guys, but one of favorite things about Halo has always been the uniqueness of the weapons. I don’t just mean how they look or act but the unique playstyles that some of them offer, besides the typical “aim and hope you can land more shots than the other guy” weapons in every other shooter. This isn’t a complaint about Halo 5’s weapons, I think they’re plenty good so far, just a opportunity to bounce around some hopes for new and returning weapons. Feel free to leave your own suggestions and link other threads that have already discussed this.

  • Returning covenant weapons: I really would like to see all the covenant weapons return with really no changes except for the “storm rifle” I think this version of the plasma rifle really lacked anything special and 343 could really buff it with due to H5’s fair start load outs- New covenant weapons: Primarily I think the covenant arsenal needs a new precision weapon since the UNSC has two, I think I needle rifle that works more linke a crossbow would be cool. Also depending on how many UNSC power weapons are added back, since H4 had a lot, the Covenenat should also get an equivalent to the Spartan Laser/SAW/Rail Gun- Forerunner weapons: The heavy forerunner weapons in H4, I think, were very lazily thought out and simply just overpowered versions on the Rocket Launcher/Sniper Rifle/Shotgun, I think they should take hints from modern arsenals like mortars or tactical shotguns, also make the bolt shot more like the mauler, I would like to see another primary rifle as well maybe something like the sentinel beam but less powerful- Vehichles: I welcome any vehicle new or old as long as they fit, I definitely would like to see more flying vehicles and maybe some from Halo WarsFinally I would like to say I aleo welcome any new weapons as long as they fill a role. What do you think? Do my ideas suck? Tell me some of yours!

I don’t have any specific ideas, but I would like to see Ancient Human weapons. I also wish they would be a little more imaginative with Forerunner weapons.

I want the Forerunner weapons to all get buffed. A Forerunner auto rifle should be a lot more valuable and powerful than the boring old human one etc.

Bring back Flamethrower.

For extra Legendary Weapons, a la Prophet’s Bane:

Captain’s Legacy: Keyes M6D from Halo: CE. Behaves like the CE Pistol.

SPNKr: Old-design Rocket Launcher with aerial and ground lock on.

I’d like all Covenant weapons to return: Energy Sword, Plasma Rifle, Brute Plasma Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Covenant Carbine, Needle Rifle, Needler, Plasma Repeater, Fuel Rod Cannon, Spiker, Mauler, Brute Shot, Gravity Hammer, Concusion Rifle, Beam Rifle. (Might be missing some.)

I would also like to use the Honor Guard Pike and possibly the fist of rukt. (Some new Brute Weapons would be nice.)

We can’t have Brute weapons in Halo 5 unless the Brutes are in the game. The Gravity Hammer was a laugh for me because there were no Brutes in the game. It was only featured in 1 campaign level for no reason.
I would say Promethean weapons that are equivalent to Brute weapons. For example the Promethean Hammer, Brute Shot, Mauler (Boltshot), Spiker, etc. And a Composer Grenade that works like a Firebomb.

Honor guard spear.

Some kind of brute gravity rifle would be cool, it could be like a gravity hammer at point blank but the further the gravity waves travel the weaker they get. The gravity waves would have knock back depending on the damage the player takes. The waves would be visible as white ripples of air and would start slow but becomes faster the more it accelerates. Good for pushing vehicles around.

UNSC:

-Machete, Katana, or usable Combat Knife
-Chaingun and Gauss turrets from H3 ODST (+Missile turret)

Oh and I know this is right in the middle of the list, but, DUAL WIELDING! You have an SMG and Pistol, let us use 2 @ once!

Covenant:
-All Covenant Weapons from before (Brute weapons too!)!
-Needle Rifle and Carbine is downgraded to a covenant holographic sight just like the new BR
-Including the Honor Guard Stave and Energy Dagger
-Some sort of heat ray that shows a blue -Yoink!- where shot and player melts (Yeah melts) as counterpart to Flamethrower
-Some sort of detached hunter cannon that shoots the fuel rods, not the beam, as counterpart to missile pod
-Stationary Plasma Cannon from H2
-Detachable Plasma Cannon from H4
-Plasma, Fuel Rod, and Needle version of H1’s Shade Turret
-Tyrant AA-Gun from Halo Reach

Promethean/Forerunner:
-Every promethean weapon in Halo 4
-Suppressor is Dual Wieldable
-Sentinel Beam is like Assault Rifle/Storm Rifle equivalent and usable by Knights
-If you played ORIGINAL Halo 2 you may have noticed in Sacred Icon and Quarantine Zone that there was golden sentinels who dropped Golden Sentinel Beams among death, add those to maybe act like the SAW (A Buffed up Assault Rifle)
-A Pulse Launcher that Launches 3 spiraling Pulses at once that, upon contact with target will kill players and damage or flip vehicles
-If you played Halo: Spartan Assault on Xbox on Co-op, there is a pulse turret from H4 that the players can use and that can counterpart to the Stationary Turret and Plasma Cannon
-A HEAVY Version of the Suppressor that hovers in mid-air and is usable by the player and can be detached and carried around with limited hardlight in it.
-If you played Spartan Ops, Episode 6, Switchback then you know you fought Promethean AA-cannons, add those to equal up to the Onager and Tyrant

Legendary Weapons:
-Wire Biter: The Energy Sword that was used by the Arbiter to cut the wire on the gas mine, and used in several situations by Rtas’ Vadum, gives player 50% gravity and Overshield, It is shaped like Prophets Bane but colored Purple
-Fist of Rukt: You know, the brute Tartarus’s infamous gravity hammer, gives you 200% jump height and Instant Kill, colored and shaped like classic Fist O’ Rukt
-Spark’s Remorse: Spartan Laser used by Chief to kill 343 Guilty Spark (Also given to chief by Johnson in his last moments), has infinite ammo, has 343, 117, SGT, and HALO engraved onto it

Legendary Vehicles (and story):
-Escapee: The Warthog used by Chief, Thel, and Cortana to escape halo before it activated, somehow survived crash landing at ark’s surface and fully operational, has extraordinary speed, and is invincible
-Heresy: The Heretic Banshee used by Sesa Refumee to try to escape Threshold, another smart elite heretic was able to use the banshee to escape threshold and snuck it onto the Shadow of Intent and when the carrier slipspaced to earth he used it to aid the elites in killing the flood, he left it to Thel’ Vadum who would bring it to his home on Sangheilios where it is currently, it has exactly the same atributes as the Escapee
(Now time for two with custom storys)
-Infected: A Spectre that was used on Installation 05 by one of the murdered Elite councilors, except for the councilor wasn’t murdered by brutes, he had lost all bravery and drove away at least 170 miles and when he finally stopped to find out where he was, he was immediately confronted by several flood forms and battled them until he was overwhelmed and-obviously-Infected. The Spectre was covered in flood biomass (the gooey flood stuff) and now it has extraordinary speed, instant splatter, and invincible. With the infected spectre on the map, it is also rumored that the councilor comes on a random date of every month to kill all the spartans on the map (and you WILL be rewarded if you kill him) He has his flood claw and a plasma rifle that has instant kill, he is also 300% faster than you, and has active camo and an overshield, but a well placed rocket launcher shot should kill him…and you thought the honor guard councilor was freaky.
-Torture: A Gungoose that was used during the fall of reach by a trooper in New Alexandria, when he was in battle a covenant Phantom Gunboat in active camo kidnapped him and brought him to the covenant destroyer “Glassed Believer” where he was tortured to get info on the humans, they used energy whips to inflict pain and eventually when a spartan-III “Jayden-483” rescued him his gungoose was also painted with red strikes and he escaped to Sedra, out of all places, only to die shortly there after, his gungoose was left at a memorial in the city, but when spartans walk up to this gungoose, they say you can still hear the screams of the soldier and the gungoose itself is the same as the Infected spectre.

How about that?

For “The Flood” or “Infection” I would want to see an infection scene taking place. :smiley: I would also want more flying vehicles.

I don’t mind these ideas at all. I actually think legendary weapons is one of there better ideas. Perfect example of adding something that doesn’t change the core game.

I’d just like to add, as long as they don’t bring back god!! Oh I mean the saw!!! That weapon was thy most over power gun in any halo game ever IMO.

I also hope “power ups” like OS and invis. are back and are map pick ups.

I loved the saw’s design, hope it’s brought back.

I have to do some constructive criticism on some of the posters’ wishes here.

We are already facing a potentially excessive sandbox here with weapon redundancies; why do you want to make the excessive more so?

Halo 3 suffered this when SMG/Spiker/Plasma Rifle were basically copies of each other, and just diluted the Sandbox. Reach did the same with the Plasma Repeater/Plasma Rifle/Spiker, where the Repeater was the only other auto rifle needed, considering we already have the Needler.

And Halo 4 suffered from the BR/DMR/Carbine/Lightrifle dilution too. Too many precision rifles whose roles are distinct enough. In Halos 2, 3 and Reach, the precision weapon area of the sandbox was straight forward with just the BR/Carbine or DMR/Needle Rifle. And then also in Halo 4 there the AR/Suppressor/Storm Rifle were also basically copies of each other.

Given the current Halo 5 sandbox, it would be more logical and sandbox-efficient to have just one precision rifle and one auto rifle for each race. (BR/Carbine/Lightrifle and AR/Needler/Suppressor[if it’s returning]).

The forerunner and covenant sandboxes should have more unique weapons from their UNSC counterparts, as opposed to copy/paste (Incineration Cannon and Fuel Rod Gun fulfil the same role as the Rocket Launcher, for example.). An example of this uniqueness of distinction would be Rocket Launcher v.s. Plasma Launcher v.s. a (Forerunner) Spartan Laser.

Not necessarily, a bigger sandbox has more tools to play with provided you don’t approach weapon design as making factions versions of a certain type.
So it gets dull if you just re-colour the same basic precision rifle. But if things vary like with SMG being good against armour while PR better against shields, and Brute stuff being in its own little world. You get an interesting variety without just touching up the same gun.

Needle Rifle fulfilled the role of Covie precision rifle while still maintaining its own twist. Include the Carbine as well to have a BR/DMR counterpart.
Promethean stuff still lacks much of an identity, hardlight just comes across as colourful bullets. It ends up being a failed opportunity, they lack their own identity.

The plasma repeater also had the unique twist of its variable fire rate.
Incineration and Binary Rifle actually had some sort of thing, the former was a cluster bomblet of rekt and the latter an elephant gun. Kinda overpowered but still an identity nonetheless.

So basically, yeah you don’t want to remake the same gun but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a big sandbox if you approach weapon design with some creativity and therefore have similar guns with different niches. Like Brute Shot vs Fuel Rod vs Plasma Launcher for varying anti-vehicle guns.

I wouldn’t mind the plasma rifle returning.

I want to see all the Promethean weapons return along with the Needle rifle (halo reach) Saw, Railgun and Fire bomb grenades.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I would also want 3 weapons maybe or Firefight back.

  • Return of the Halo 4 weapons except the Sticky Detonator (it seems to be replaced by a grenade launcher, as shown in the beta trailer).
  • Covenant versions of the SAW and Railgun. Maybe the former a buffed Plasma Repeater or a Needler with a large magazine, and the latter a more accurate and powerful Concussion Rifle.
  • I think the Forerunner weapons are fine where they’re at now, though there could be a usable version of the weapon from the Focus Turret (those turrets that the Watchers spawned). HOWEVER 343 SHOULD DEFINITELY NERF THE CHARGED BOLTSHOT!!
  • Return of UNSC aerial vehicles, especially the Hornet.
  • Return of the Gungoose from Halo 2 Anniversary.
  • Return of the Gravity Hammer, and put in context. So, bring back Brutes (ever read Halo: Escalation? Maybe they can be allies in this game!)

-I would love to see some kind of silenced sniper rifle. Kind of like we have the silenced smg, but I think it should be tooled up with lasers and a different scope.
-Bow and arrows seem to be the shizzle in gaming right now, so why not. Haloed up of course
-Mid range forerunner automatic weapon. The suppressor is no good past CQB.
-Maybe a covenant weapon that electrocutes enemies, like shoots lightning or something.

-Pelican
-Phantom
-Shortsword
-Falcon, hornet or Hawk
-Transport Hog
-A mix between a Scorpion and Warthog. Kind of like the LAV vehicles from Battlefield.
-Boats?

-Oh, and for forge, ODST drop pod. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
