I feel a lot of people in this game fail to realize that sprint is a minuscule 10% speedboost. players always attempt to flee from me when I catch them off guard only to be shot in the back. I’d imagine people have internalized this playstyle from lot of other fps games that condition you to sprint away in an unfavorable fight.
in this game it just doesn’t make sense to do that. you’re locking yourself facing forward instead of damaging the opponent attacking you just for a measly 10% speed boost. its always annoying seeing teammates do this cus they could’ve been weakening the enemy before they died instead of running away with their back turned, inevitably dying anyways.
imagine you’re playing halo 3, an enemy starts shooting at you, so you turn your back to them and start walking away. that’s essentially what people are doing in this game. always backpedal and shoot, unless you’re positive sprinting/sliding can ensure you get away (it usually doesn’t).

I do agree, although I find myself doing this very thing. One exception would be when you have a corner you can run around and start dropping grenades hoping to catch them chasing. At a certain level, enemies stop falling for that one though.
That’s literally a strategy in high rank games, where you don’t want to engage in a fight you’re not likely to win. There’s even an advanced technique to supplement running to cover called “Strongsiding”
Once I get shot in the back I don’t try to turn and fight because in all likelihood I’ll be dead before I have turned around. On the same note - I won’t turn around to run away if shot from the front (unless I can just sidestep into cover).
If I have a feeling I might make it to the corner in time I’ll do the sprint. Simply because it would allow me to hopefully regenerate my shields before the enemy rounds it allowing me to reengage on a more equal footing.

true but thats a completely different thing. strongsiding denies headshots, making it useful for getting into cover and avoiding a snipe or BR 4-tap.
sprint is just locking yourself in 1 direction faced away from the enemy.
While I agree with the overall sentiment, I think in many situations you can run and use the map to juke your opponent and get the upperhand. If the intent is just to run away, it likely doesn’t work that well.
Staying alive is also pretty important. If you just want to damage the enemy more but you have nobody around to clean up, you’re not helping the team. Additionally, if you do have a teammate nearby, getting away keeps you alive while also lets your teammate clean up.
But honestly, I feel this game would play so much better without Sprint and I’m surprised nobody is talking about this. Then again, maybe I’m wrong.

They can’t remove sprint now, the maps are designed with it in mind.
