Returning Covenant Species?

So far, we know that Elites, Grunts, and Jackals are returning in Halo 4, while Brutes, Hunters, Drones, Prophets, Engineers, and Skirmishers are yet to be determined.

Here’s some speculation for each species:

Hunters: I think it’s very likely we’ll see the Hunters returning. They’ve been in every Halo game since Halo: Combat Evolved. These guys should definitely return.

Brutes: probably a 50/50 chance of these guys returning. We know from Glasslands that there’s some Brutes still loyal to the Elites, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them.

Prophets: not sure about this one, since there’s only about 1,000 of these guys left, though it may be possible that some of the Prophets are in the leaders of the new Covenant, though I doubt it a little.

Drones: I don’t see any logical reason for why the Drones shouldn’t be in Halo 4, but for some reason, I have this feeling that they’re going to be left out. I hope not, I rather like the Drones, and was disappointed that they barely appeared in the Reach Campaign (and not at all in Firefight).

Engineers: considering the fact that they were seen in Requiem in Glasslands, I’m pretty sure they are returning.

Skirmishers: yes, I know they are a sub-species, and yeah I know they’re warriors were wiped out during the Fall of Reach, but come on, do you really think 1 battle would wipe out an entire sub-species? I think there might be a chance of them returning.

So what species do you think/want to return in Halo 4? Personally, I want all of them to return.

I want all of them returning, I just don’t want them (brutes & flood) brung back the way they were is all. some of them really need some fixing/improving in order for them to be worth something.

I would say all of them.

It would be fun to boss battle a prophet again.

Edit: I think you knew this already, but others may not… Skirmishers and Jackals are the same species. Kig-Yar.

Brutes would also not be needed (I think) because the covenant hierarchs are dead.

Everyone except Skirmishers. Those were too -Yoinking!- annoying in Reach.Don’t wanna see them again.

I liked the skirmishers, they got annoying sometimes, but they were still cool. You can’t wipe them all out in one battle. That would mean they sent everyone in to battle, the regular warriors, children, and the elderly. Surly, even when apart of a huge military that is currently attacking a planet, the entire species isn’t going to be sent in. I think 343 should make it so the Skirmishers did something that pissed off the prophets so the prophets set them to doing something else, like the most dangerous kind of factory work or something, something like mining maybe.

I really want the Brutes to come back but I also want to see the Skirmishers come back as well.

I also want the rest to come back but not as much as the Brutes and Skirmishers.

I hope we see all the classes before Halo is gone. But not just covenant, I mean all the classes of every faction. Whether its Covenant, Prometheans, Flood, Sentinels, maybe even human rebels, and maybe something else to. Who knows, maybe well see some actual Forerunners and Precursors to.

They should all return. Perhaps not in the campaign, but definitely Spartan-Ops has a place for them.

The brutes and prophets were -yoinks-. The only reason I’d like to see them return would be to kill them.

I think there was just so much flavor and variety to the Covies that it would be a shame if they didn’t all appear at some point.

That said though, if I were to choose which ones I would drop, it would probably be the Drones, Brutes, Skirmishers, Prophets, and that’s about it.

I wouldn’t worry your cotton hearts too badly darthkillyou and friends because if there is one thing 44developments have displayed it is that there’s nothing they like more than sifting through the delicious leftovers in the wake of Bungie’s party! By this I mean they have made sure that if something has been in a Halo game and a single fan has beheld it with a kindly eye then that “it” will surely arrive onto Halo 4’s doorstep like a welcome gift.

I completely agree with that^ though those enemies have a lot of potential they still have a long way to go before they reach the same status as the other covies did.

the skirmishers I thought didn’t make much sense, I mean from the way they moved you would think they be aggressive and not evasive. it would make more sense if they tried to run at you with their claws and or melee weapons.

as for the brutes they were pretty much just treated as a replacement for the elites so those guys were never really fleshed out to begin with, if they make them act like brutes and not elites in halo 4 that would be a definite improvement.

prophets were pretty much just bosses, though it was really cool hijacking them and stuff they weren’t really all that much of a challenge.

drones I think were really well made, even though the weapons and the way they used them didn’t make any sense (they probably should’ve just used needlers) its still kind of awesome to play against them. another thing that would’ve been interesting would’ve been taking on the buggers while an engineer was around, buggers plus shields would’ve been one dangerous combination.

Really hope Hunters make a return, which I think they will. The rest I could really care less about.

I mean, yeah, it would be cool to see them, except for Skirmishers, which we’ve never played against in H:CE through H3 (chronologically), and now they’re in Halo 4? I don’t know, almost makes Halo 4 seem like a sequel to Reach and not H3. Plus, they’re annoying.

did you ever fight regret on legendary, believe me you want that fight to be that easy. It took me a about one or two hours to finally kill him. He and the honor guards made an incredible fight that day

Also I would love to see all of these make a return, except the brutes the way they acted in halo 2 is the way I want them to be. No energy shields, lots of health, crazy monkeys

I never actually beat halo 2 on legendary so I wouldn’t know.

as for the brutes I thought they were great enemies they just didn’t utilize the potential of them, if they do in halo 4 then I’ll welcome them with open arms.

I think Brutes should be mentioned somehow, but I have mix feelings towards them returning in-gameplay. If they’re going to act like how they were in Halo 3 and Reach, I’d rather have a different Elite class do that - since Brutes in 3 and Reach basically act like weaker, stupider Elites. I’d rather they return like how they were in Halo 2 - berserkers with high health, no shields, and brutal melees.

I don’t much care for Prophets returning. They’re supposed to be near-extinct, and anyway they only appeared in gameplay ONCE (Truth’s corpse and Regret in Halo Wars doesn’t count). If they appear, I’m pretty sure the new Elites will rip them apart faster than Master Chief can.

If Hunters do not return, that will be the biggest change we’ve seen in Halo 4. The removal of dual-wielding, the new loadouts system, Spartan Ops, all do not compare to removing Hunters. Hunters are an essential part of the Halo identity.

I want Drones to return. I liked fighting a flying enemy that landed on walls, they added a new dimension to combat. However, I didn’t like the way they were handled - rather than having fun scenarios like an air battle with Drones, they were just tedious to fight. But I liked the way their head exploded in Reach.

It honestly won’t bother me whether or not Skirmishers return. They’ve only appeared in one Halo game, and although they were cool (ninja velociraptors!) they were annoying to fight. I honestly think they were an interesting new change to gameplay, but again, I disliked the way they were handled - instead of their speed and agility being put to use to make them aggressive and vicious, they were just evasive. Also, they didn’t play a big part in-story. If they return in Halo 4, they should be harder to fight and more aggressive - doing stuff like dual-wielding, darting in to melee attack and jumping off to ambush you.

didn’t the skirmishers get whiped out?
