Return to battlefield...

Yay or nay? I remember playing H3 back in the day ( i was about 13) and I remember how you used to be able to get out of the maps and go on epic adventures. I’d spend hours upon hours looking for new places to go and to see how cool the outside environment really is. With Reach and now H4, return to battlefield has stopped me and my buddies from doing so which is kinda disappointing :frowning: ! Talking from a campaign perspective only, I wish Bungie didnt bring it in and I wish 343 trashed it !

Tell me about your adventures, and whether you think RTB should be in or not

(not serious post, just a bit of fun)

Me and a buddy used to spend hours doing this on Halo 2, wish they didn’t prevent it now

What is RTB?

Return to battle

I hate that ‘Return to battlefield’ thing, really limits people.

Without it, we would have people glitching all the time.

RTB is the best thing since sliced bread.

i really hate return to battlefield you know why theres no place to hide from the wining team on team slayer.

whats the point of walking around in the game doing nothing?

i just dont get it

one of the most memorable times of Halo3 was jumping out of the Hog during the Halo mission and getting under the falling tiles and escaping to an (almost) endless ‘crazy’ polygon world…

feel like a damn robot doing campaign now, go to button, press, go to button, press BORING.

I HATE RETURN TO BATTLEFIELD! : (

It should stay because of the campaign challenges and achievements in general.

I agree with OP. I remember getting outside of Delta Halo in Halo 2 and exploring the entire perimeter of both lakes in the game. It was fun.

Shoot, I think 343 should encourage it! hide easter eggs out there. place random weapons and have surprise drop ships come in and attack you. It could be lots of fun.

Don’t know why Halo is promoting an EA game. I don’t even own Battlefield. STOP TELLING MII TO GO BACK TO KARKLAND!

Same, except Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater

Yeah its really stupid, I also use to go around with friends looking for ways out the maps in campaign and both online and when we did get out we would spend hours walking around it was pure fun.

Now the RTB is in Halo 4 and Reach it took out one of my favourite things in Halo 3 :frowning:

Everytime I see that noticifation, it reminds me of this video;

This is almost the BXR thing all over again…

‘Return to battlefield’ and invisible barriers are both lazy ways to bypass actually building a good map.

No its the worst Its cheap and terrible. Halo 3 had its best kill barriers as they were themed . Having the return to battle Field show up constantly is horrible and just takes away some enjoyment.

NAY. Anyone who says yay should be struck down by the Arbiter.

I admit, Bungie’s soft kill zones (in Reach) were much more abominable (evil ridiculous placement, longer wait for the countdown to go back up to 10). But 343’s merciful changes does not mean that they should leave it in for Halo 5.

Personally, I’d rather see 343 strike down death barriers and bring back good old fall barriers (it was possible to reset the fall timer in CE and Halo 2. In Halo 2, you could make yourself immune to the fall barrier with sword flying).

IIRC, CE only had 1 single death barrier (on The Library). Halo 2 has one on The Oracle (elevator ride) and on Great Journey (Tartarus battle). Halo 3 has a plethora of them.

What a lousy reason. People can already mod and glitch those. Exploration wouldn’t ruin the challenge.

It can ADD to the gameplay (when doing the bridge descent on AotCR, go back for a Banshee, Scorpion, or Ghost then go through the door to trigger the enemies. You can lead them away, save your marines, get 2 Hogs, flip the Wraith, etc.).

Same reason why people climb those freakishly tall mountains IRL, taking a multitude of risks (hard breathing, falling). Because it’s an achievement in itself (of course I’m talking about the really complex out of map exploration).
