Do you think that they should bring back the use of either flashlights, VISR, or nightvision?
My question is what purpose do they serve to gameplay? Campaign it could make sense in some parts. For multiplayer though i cannot recall a purpose i ever used it for…

Well, of course not. Why would you use it in matchmaking?
I was talking about Campaign. You know, that part of the game that is … well, the game. I thought the HUD elements added a lot to the ambiance and gameplay (especially VISR).

Probably because it wasn’t in multiplayer following Halo CE, and all developer-made maps are typically well-lit.
Would love to see Night Vision and VISR come back. I think it would look crisp at 60fps and next gen graphics. It would also be an evolution of the experiments Halo 4 took with ord markers, etc.
But where it could really shine is if matchmaking ever lets us keep our armor. Call the teams Red and Blue, sure, but stop coloring us. Then those faint outlines could make that experience more engaging. But it’s important not to make it too obvious or players become too reliant on it.
Flashlight is ‘eh’, a bit too old school IMO. Campaign would be neat I guess.

You would then be relying on faint outlines to decide who is friend and who is foe, instead of the color of their armor. Coloring the teams armor a certain color seems far more logical to me than having a faint highlight around everyone.
Flashlight helps set the mood. Which adds more suspense when you’re fighting Flood/Zombies in a dark area, Night Vision or a Flashlight?

Flashlight. Which is why this function should retain it’s place as a feature across modes. It can play an integral part to setting the mood in a given map.
I would like to see the flashlight return in halo 5
I can’t really say because, where will we find the space to add in those functions, I personally can’t even change grenades while ordanance is up!

-Get rid of Ordnance and default Sprint.
-Send swap grenades back to LB on default settings, and put Flashlight/Nightvision on the Left arrow of the dpad.
-Choose whether players will have Flashlight, Nightvision, or None in the Custom Game options.
Yet another problem on this forum solved.

LOL, but thinking realistically, they wouldn’t remove sprint and ordnance like that. Sprint doesn’t break any ‘core’ attributes and I doubt that they would remove ordnance like it was never there. They may either perfect it or make some kind of hybrid or water it down a lot, but I sincerely doubt that it would be removed.
ps. I was talking about my own settings(Recon)
Also how is Nightvision not better? It would be a waste of time to let players choose when the other gives you a disadvantage…
The light can give you away and is limited, nightvision does nor is that.
The flashlight might work in multiplayer
This is one of the few things that they should have implemented in every Halo game after they brought them in, I’m baffled as to how we got the worst thing about Reach into Halo 4 while the original ‘fun’ ideas like the light/night-vision were removed, I’d have love to use them in multiplayer too because they seem ‘fun’.
in story mode they could be nice, in mp they may need some adjusting

I don’t recall up ever having a function so you can choose grenades, flashlight or visr options (with down), and press up when available to open or close or ordinance choices.

It’s not at all unrealistic to think that sprint and ordnance will be removed. Both features have proven to be unpopular with a significant part of the community, and reasons for their removal are constantly given. I recall that 343i didn’t play with PO enabled in one of their livestreams, showing that they aren’t fond of it either. PO was really only added to make it easier for bad players to get power weapons more, by removing the power weapons you remove its purpose and may as well remove it. Sprint was also added into Halo 4 as a base ability as part of their idea to make the game easier and attract players from other franchies by mimicking CoD. Sprint isn’t an evolution to Halo’s gameplay, and it offers several negative, but no real positives.
Just apply the changes I said to the control scheme you use, it’s not that hard. For Recon it’s the exact same as it was in Halo 3 for default.
It’s for Custom Games, didn’t you read? You might not want the players to have something as good as Nightvision for seeing in the dark, or maybe you want the Flashlight so there are negatives to using it in that its limited in duration and it can give you away.

Fair play, but I don’t follow the logic. One of the big reasons team color was restricted was because past titles couldn’t process all the individual variables.
With the XB1 this might not be a problem; if so I’d rather not be beholden the past in that regard. The exact behavior of the outline is variable, but it could work well IMHO. Either way it would provide a more realistic experience me than everyone wearing red or blue.
Great point for the flashlight, but not everyone plays Flood so it has limited value there. Campaign would be a great effect though, especially in flood-dense levels.
Not arguing with your point of view here, just saying that I feel the VISR and Night Vision have more potential in XB1 than the flashlight. Then again, 343 could blow me out of the water with the coolest flashlight that ever was programmed. I can’t wait, either way!
Doesn’t really matter to me. Having dark areas that force you to use flashlights or night vision seems like a cheap way to change up the game, IMO. 343i can do better than that.
Flashlights have a cooler effect environmentally if done right.

I’ve never heard of that reasoning to explain team colors before. In Halo 3, Infection has teams and everyone can retain their individual colors and armors. So, this clearly wasn’t a problem for long, if it ever was. This simplest reason is that it’s really easy to tell who’s on your team when everyone on your team is a single color, or even a single primary color, but everyone has a secondary color like in Halo 2. Wearing red and blue armor is FAR more clear than a colored outline.
Choose which vision enhancer players will have access to in Custom Games options. I’ve already said this 3 times now.
