Just a thought here but I don’t know if you noticed it or not but very few people ever have mics on anymore in lobbies. Why is this? This is my observation on this agree or disagree.
If I am not wearing a mic while playing online it is mostly because of 1 reason. If I have a bad game I don’t want to listen to the trash talk of some of the jokers that are online so I usually mute them all, or party up so I don’t have to listen to their nonsense.
I don’t know if any of you have caught this video from Major Nelson about reputation on xbox one but you should take the time to check this out.
What this does if you don’t watch the video is those players that cause problems will start getting bad reps then you will not get placed in matches and have to deal with that kind of nonsense.
So how does this apply to Halo 5? Well, I think 343 will need to 1 of 2 things. 1: Make certain lobbies where party chat isn’t allowed. You will need to be in game chat.
2: Add a selectable requirement that you can turn on or off, for game chat while searching for matches. So when you search for players the system only matches you up with players that have mics, and are in game chat. Halo Reach did something like this, so it is possible.

Bingo! hit the nail on the head mate. I agree so much on this. Game chat is good for the community, yeah you get the -Yoinks!- and rage players but most of the time you have a laugh with complete strangers and that is how i got most of my friends on xbox live, through game chat.
I agree. I think that the lack a people being mic’d up is also a reflection on the match making and ranking system. I had the best team work and team chat during halo three when you were matched with people of similar rank and skill who were interested in winning and working together to rank up. Now no one cares and no one stays together because winning doesnt really matter anymore.
Blaming the lack of people with mics in Halo 4 on matchmaking and the ranking system is a strawman argument. There’s no evidence supporting this claim.
Banning party chat/forcing game chat won’t solve anything. The population of those areas would plummet. “Not allowed to play the way I want to play? So be it, I won’t play.”
Or people will just go on muting sprees. Or turn the mic on but don’t talk or listen.
The better reputation-matching system should help. Once people realize they won’t get slammed by annoying sounds, garbled music, or idiotic talk, they’ll start to see who is out there. Search filters would help as well.
As long as the party system still exists, there’s going to be very few people on game chat. It’s not worth getting rid of it, either. If you recall, a couple of playlists in CoD MW2 couldn’t be entered if you were in party chat and everyone hated it.
