as a Halo player who has played very competitively all the way from Halo: CE till now, Respawn now is the dumbest thing to ever be in a Halo game, Halo was NEVER about instant respawning and running around crazy and dying and respawning instantly. If you got killed in older Halo’s, it could determine whether you lose or win the game because of the respawn timer. But now its like you get someone weak and they kill you, you can just pop up and kill them instantly. (respawn points sometimes are ridiculous also but i will save that for another time)
There is no strategies in instant respawning and it takes away strategies. Really though this is my ONLY complaint of this game, and it is a serious contender to Halo 2 in my book (which i think was the best halo ever)
How is forcing a player to not play a strategy? That is just poor game design…
Respawn points are also very bad. I’ve spawned out in the open in Complex atleast 7 times and I would get team shot right off the bat, and I probably died 5 of those 7 spawns.
> How is forcing a player to not play a strategy? That is just poor game design…
Umm…wrong. Re-spawn rates allow for teams to gain leads, it’s a huge factor into game strategy. Instant respawn rates literally take away penalty for dying, so people throw themselves carelessly at the enemy team. I can’t tell you how many times I have lost a DMR duel and instantly re-spawned 3 seconds from where I was killed only the find the player who killed me shield-less and begging for a bullet to the head.
It speeds up gameplay if anything.

This. I’ve had entire teams spawn behind me in the same base before.
So…
With a 3 second respawn, the game suddenly has tons of strategy and tactics.
With instant respawn, the game suddenly loses ALL strategy AND tactics?
Do i have to be the guy who says the most obvious thing? The tactics/strategy are not lost, they have simply changed.
Majority of regular fans wanted something fresh, if you didn’t want something fresh, seriously just go back and play whatever Halo game you enjoyed competitively.
Just because you are forced to rethink your tactics and adapt all over again, doesn’t mean there isn’t strategy/tactics.
I personally prefer instant respawn, but it seems to only be in deathmatch anyway (could be wrong), all objective modes i have tried have all had a timer, you mentioned in older games dying could lose you the game, this would ONLY happen in an objective game like CTF/KOTH, which all still have times respawns.
Slayer is supposed to be fast paced, especially infinity slayer.
I find it pretty hilarious how we have 1 group of people complaining that people camp/hide too much and slow the pace of the game down to a crawl, then another whole group complaining the game has become too fast paced, when in reality the only truth is the game can be both very very very slow paced, AND very very very fast paced, this is what we call a varied game.
Pro tip: Don’t play game modes with instant respawn.

Takes away the penalty for dying? The penalty for dying is losing. Get real. Instant respawn doesn’t actually negatively impact the game. If anything it makes the game better by speeding it up.

What a trivial statement. Please define fresh, cause you can’t just throw this statement out there and not expect to get called out for it. And how do you know MOST fans wanted something fresh? As well, if some of us wanted fresh it doesn’t necessarily mean an instant re-respawn rate.
Remember we are all entitled to our opinions and I do respect yours.

You don’t lose. You give the other team a point. Hardly losing.

protip, just about every gametype has it

since when has Halo been the same pace as COD? it takes away strategies because the penalty of dying is less severe, Noobs just run around and keep dying, instant respawning and keep dying all at a very fast rate, and the respawn points in this game are quite ridiculous at times…
Also, I’ve been playing various game types and it seems like the re-spawn rate is buggy; sometimes I can re-spawn instantly, sometimes I have to wait for 3 seconds. King of the Hill did this to me last night, don’t know why. Was very strange. Anyone else experiencing this?

THIS!!! this is so dam true
> It speeds up gameplay if anything.
lol, yeah, by allowing me to run back to where I just got killed and clean up the person who killed me because his shields aren’t fully recharged yet. Happens on smaller maps and even on Complex. Instant respawn is silly. It’s for hyperactive players.
It’s a big step against spawn killing, which is a win in my opinion.

Only by allowing you to attack the players that just killed you. That should never happen. A 3sec respawn would end that.

Exactly.

That is usually more of an issue with poor MM criteria. Lower level players can’t spawn kill and higher level players accept that they should be able to break a spawn trap. Halo2/3 did a decent job of splitting the two groups of players.
