Resolved. (Thanks to all who helped)

Hello, all. I’m having an issue preloading Halo 5. I had to uninstall it because the update refused to exist no matter what I did. So I did that and started the download. The second download was glitched (changed file size midway through(started at 54.8GB then reverted to 46.1GB)).

So I restarted it a third time and headed off to work. I came home and the download had discontinued itself only a quarter way through. Fearing this could be a preview dashboard related glitch, I uninstalled a third time, power cycled my console, and intiated the install again.

Now I’m on my 4th time trying to install Halo 5 through this extremely buggy experience and now it’s been locked at 5% for the last 40 minutes. I don’t want to have to download this yet again when the game launches so I’m trying to get it right the first time, but I have no idea what is happening. I ask for someone who is smarter than I to assist me.

TL;DR: My install is stuck at 5%. What do?

Check your bandwidth usage to see if the download is still going

Yes, I can see it update every few seconds.

Its still downloading then, remember its 54.8gb so the percentage bar will move very slowly

Sometimes the percentage likes to get stuck for some reason. Happens to a bunch of my downloads but its still going

What’s odd is that the first time I downloaded it (before the patch), it only took about 5 hours to finish. Now it’s taking over an hour just to move 1%. I don’t get it.

I’ve had that too but never for this long.

Mine never moves unless I pause it, hard reset, and resume it. Try that.

The download servers could be really busy or your internet is just slow at the moment

Don’t forget that there will be loads of people updating too whilst you are downloading the game

Just set it to instant on mode and leave it too it

Wouldn’t a hard reset mess with the install? I’m hesitant to try that, especially now that I have the preview dashboard.

It’s probably a mix of circumstances friend. I had to uninstall and reinstall my whole game as well and my previous 3-4 hour download became an overnight thing. Alot of people are downloading it and patching it along with you and its a sizable download so its going to take some time.

Try to delete all Halo5 data, make a hard reset and start the download process again.

I’m running on 17mbps internet, which isn’t fantastic but it’s not terrible either. But when I go into bandwidth usage, the current usage heavily fluctuates between 500kb/s to 1+mb/s. I’m not really keen on trying to understand networking so I have no idea if that’s good, bad, or normal.

And if it matters, I’m on wifi with an 80% signal strength.

Not sure how the preview dashboard works. But I know on the old one that you shouldn’t have any issue if you pause the download and then hard reset. Maybe just simply pause it and resume it

I did that, disconnected from the internet, reconnected after a hard reset again, then did a second hard reset, and started it all over again. I even cleared out a game just so the console would have even more space to work with (if that even matters). So far, after about 5 minutes, I’m at 1%.

Just let it go and don’t mess with it anymore. Itll probably be fine this time around

I’ll have to keep that in mind if this download keeps giving me issues like it has been. It downloaded perfectly the first time so I have no idea what happened.

I sure hope so.

That explains then why it is slow. Turn on Instant on and then switch the console off. It usually downloads faster when in Instant On mode

My console is always set to instant on so that’s out of the way. Do games download faster when the console is off (with instant on active) or would it be better to do this like on the 360 where I just leave my console on for the duration of the download?
