Resetting Routers Might Help?

My buddy and I were trying to party up to run some H2A the past few nights (silly us, I know) and we were having trouble connecting to each others’ lobby, and when finally we did we rarely got into an even, well connected game.

Then last night he reset his comcast router and we were able to party up instantly and surprisingly enough consistently got games the rest of the night without having to quit the build and start it back up.

Now thats not to say that these games didn’t occasionally bug out and the like, but it was less frequent than previous nights and we found games regularly and were able to connect repeadtedly after each game. This was new for us.

Idk how many other people have tried that when trying to play with friends, but I’d say its worth a shot if you haven’t

First of all, if you get a router from you ISP you should request just a modem then buy your own router. ISP provided routers/modems/WAPs are notorious for being shoddy. They also dont generally give you as much access to the router settings that you might need to get your NAT open. That is a generalization of course, so you could do some googling on the model number of the router to see what other say about it.

Have you checked to make sure that he had an open NAT? He may not have before, then resetting his router cleared out the UPnP table (they get bugged up sometimes) and allowed it to connect to the Xbox with an open nat.

You should check your connection for all of that as well. A quick google search can walk you through all of it.

Comcast does not provide the option of just modems anymore, you’re only allowed to use their “wireless gateway” which acts as both the modem and router. He had an Open NAT he told me, as did I.

I’ll backup Apollo in his post. Rebooting the router can clear the upnp list (which can get messy over time) on a router with upnp enabled. Rebooting perhaps once a month can help keep things right. Some firmware (eg dd-wrt) in routers with upnp enabled require a box to be ticked for this list to clear at reboot, where others may just clear by default.

When buying a router you should check the Microsoft Xbox live hardware compatibility list. Go to xbox.com - xbox forums - xbox support - Networking Hardware Information. These forums have lots of info about many routers and other networking devices.

Eww gross Comcast! Not giving customers a choice is poor customer service…

I have charter, which itself is a problem, and i remember they offered the whole “Wireless Gateway” thing for like 5 extra bucks a month as a “lease.” I said nope obviously.
I might call their tech support anyway, ask to speak with the “customer retention” department if you are dedicated to getting your own router. They might be able to help you get just a modem.

if its working fine now though and you have found a system that works sufficiently, it could be better to leave “well enough alone” at this point.

I have Comcast and I have my own router. You are not forced to use their router. Just tell them you want only the modem.

Regardless the game is broken and that’s the bottom line. I can play any other game on the PC, PS3, 360, X1 with no problems. I can even play BF4 with 64 players along with land and air vehicles with no problems at all. Even more funny I can hop onto Halo 4 on the 360 without a single issue.

TMCC mp is broken. Period. Once in a while it has a hiccup and works okay, but 95% of the time it is a nightmare especially in BTB with friends. The netcode is an absolute disaster, that’s why they are in the process of releasing a beta, for this beta. Clearly something is massively wrong for a developer to do that on a console.

This is only partially true. They do provide the option of getting just a modem… they use Arris brand. Typically these are reserved for internet/home phone service.

The wireless gateways that you are given now can also be configured as a modem… However, here’s the fun part. They no longer give you the ability to put this into bridge mode yourself. You will need to call Comcast and have them switch this over for you.

Get on my level kid.

Yes and you probably had it for a year, at the end of last year they started only giving out their new modem/router combos and sent letters to customers about the new modem saying they upgraded the network and we need the new router, which makes sense since i think the new one supports ipv6 which is nice for xbox one since most of it’s dc issues with parties are apparently tied to it trying to use ipv6 and not being able to so it dcs. Kinda nice to get a new modem as i have been nagging them for over a year to send us a new one since we have issues now and then where the modem just decides not to work and whenever their techs come out the issue seemingly “fixes” itself so they find nothing wrong then a week or so latter it starts again.

My buddy and i have tried ALL day yesterday to stay in a xbox live party without me being dropped from it (worked fine since the 26th last month when i got the one) so we switched to skype which we had no issues with me being dropped. With the party chat problem solved we moved on to trying to actually play, we had nothing but problems trying to join each other in game and whenever we would manage to get in a group together and we tried to setup a match to play the person not the host would simply vanish from the party, after messing with the game on and off all day yesterday we managed to get together and play some customs for grinding out the chievos and a few of the campaign chievos without any major issues other than an explosion crash like ones we had last few times we tried to play where whenever a really big explosion happened the game froze and crashed. This was the first time since before the last update we tried to play together and we had no problem actually joining each others group prior to it.

I tried many things to try and get it to work properly like resetting both my modem and router, redoing all my network settings on the xbox itself, force restarting my xbox a dozen times and none of those did anything to help.

But honestly i am really getting fed up with this game and trying to play it reliably without hours to an entire day of screwing around just to get in a group together to attempt to actually play something. They really need to extend the compensation until the day it is confirmed fixed for every single person since those of us who got this game and the xbox one on christmas have had to deal with this broken trash for over a month now already and get nothing for the trouble. Microsoft needs to step in and bring in some third party company that knows what the hell they are doing to fix these issues IMMEDIATLY, the problems lasting this long are completely unacceptable. If it goes on much longer for a first party title that has been without a doubt a system seller for all 3 xbox generations so far than the issue will kickback to Microsoft themselves and will end up costing them tons of money on people abandoning the xbox brand completely next generation.

Other than the AC games i got with my system i picked up 2 games, this and the new cod, the new cod multiplayer got boring within a couple hours of multiplayer and this game has been a broken mess. I am pretty much paying for xbox live and not being able to use it since the only game that even remotely works that i own is ac unity and black flag, i completely beat unity and black flag is meh after getting used to unities movement improvements and i don’t care for it’s multiplayer so i am pretty much stuck screwing around with this broken pile of trash so i can get some use out of the xbox live i paid for which is quickly rotting away and being pretty much completely unused. This game being this broken is killing my entire experience with the xbox one, it turned from what i thought was a fun new system to play a ton of fun games on to a pile of crap that i have to sit in front of for an entire day just to try and get a couple of hours of enjoyment out of due to everything being broken on it.

The bottom line is your router should not be hindering your experience at this point in gaming…yes your NAT setting will cause issues with you connecting with people, but DEDICATED SERVERS was assumed to be used for everything this generation. Playing Titanfall should be the homework of every single developer of a game with a huge online commitment because its been the best online experience i have ever had and i cant believe nothing after that has followed in its steps.

Titanfall does run quite well but BF4 actually runs incredible on dedicated servers. 64 players online with land, air, and water vehicles along with fully destructible environments. Runs dang near 100% flawless. THAT is how dedicated servers should work.

TMCC is clearly not running on dedicated servers. Or if it is, they are 95% broken.

The problem is the game, not your hardware settings.

Repeat after me.

It.

Is.

Not.

My.

Fault.

It makes little difference if you are able to get a modem only from comcast. Go to the store and buy your own. All of the major stores carry them. Look for the newest Motorola Surfboard Docsis 3.0 cable modem (not the combination wireless modem). Its gonna cost you about 100$, then all you have to do is call Comcast and register it with them. Owning a modem is cheaper than renting one anyways and it will pay itself off in about a year (renting one is like 8.99 or something dumb).

Once you have that get yourself a nice gaming router. Research this don’t just buy one that looks cool. Buy a quality router known to work well with the Xbox One. This console has awful UPnP support so buy a router that excels in this (most new routers do but there are some that are poo)

Regardless of your router/ modem setup do yourself a favor and assign a Static IP Address to your Xbox One. This will ensure the uPnP tables don’t need to be reset and the ports will always stay assigned to the permanent IP you chose.

Turn off “Instant On” in the console power settings. It screws with the uPnP. I have seen countless people who had been unable to play with their friends have their issue corrected by changing this setting, assigning static IP, powercycling router then console. Even when they already showed Open NAT.

Even if your connection works alright I would still recommend this. Should we have to? Nope. But this is the hand Microsoft dealt us and until they decide to do something about it then this is the best option we have. I guarantee connection issues will be greatly reduced if you do this.
