Rescuing major characters as side objectives

So in last month’s campaign teaser, we see marines being held in captivity by the Banished. This implies we’re going to be able to rescue them, which leads me to wonder if we can do the same for major characters. Considering Jennifer Hale has confirmed she’s returning as Palmer, and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams has hinted (I don’t have a link to the Instagram comment) that she’s back as Tanaka, I think it’s definitely a possibility. The UNSC forces on Zeta Halo are extremely depleted, so perhaps the cast of Halo 5 is being held prisoner rather than simply being killed offscreen. Maybe we can slowly rebuild the crew of the Infinity and get Osiris back together, one member at a time? I think it’d make for some really cool objectives in the semi-open world!

Would love to see that! I’m really hoping that all of these characters are back and at least have some side stories to follow. It will be quite disappointing if they create a massive open world with none of our favorite characters.

if they are missions, i hope they aren’t side missions. i dont want important characters being kept to unimportant and optional side quests. If they are making a return they should be a main and required mission.

Palmer? Team Osiris? I would rather save random marines then those other guys I would rather forget. Hopefully it will be like Gears 5 where you can choose who lives and doesn’t.

Not a good Idea to keep character that are important to UNSC survival in optional missions. Osiris is just going to be Locke, Tanaka, and Vale. Buck left to reform Alpha 9.

Halo is not one for branching into those types storylines, even with the vague rpg elements being implemented.

I would be perfectly okay with this. While unlikely, I think it’d be cool if those you rescue could use their experiences to help you out further. Example, Holly Tanaka used to be in the UNSC Army Corps of Engineers. Maybe she’d be able to point out weaknesses in Banished vehicles or points of weakness in Banished strongholds for easier infiltration. Save someone like Locke and maybe he could provide intel on VIP Banished targets since info gathering is one of his specialties. All unlikely, but that’s how I’d spin it.

Alright, now this would be amazing. We see a high-priority Elite target on the map in last year’s campaign demo, right? Maybe Locke’s the one who’s feeding Chief the intel on his whereabouts? We can hope…

I wouldn’t be surprised if we encounter multiple characters along the way and that would be awesome. However saving them as a side objective seems unlikely, would be odd to have a notification that Palmer is captured and chief would just pass on that.
