Hello!
I recently tried to play Halo 4 with my brother. We intended to play basic all-versus-all type of Slayer. However, the only map we managed to access was an empty Forge Island map. With every other map, it kept complaining that “Players may be missing DLC”. Playing Campaign went okay.
I read some time ago that there was a requirement of buying and downloading Majestic Map Pack DLC for playlist Slayer matches or something like that. I started to wonder if this meant that I cannot play any kind of basic free-for-all Slayer deathmatch anymore. The various websites talking about the issue were somewhat confusing about it (I’m not a native English speaker), so I decided to ask more about it here.
So, I would greatly appreciate if somebody would clear this up for me. If I want to play free-for-all Slayer (or Deathmatch, AFAIK it is known as Slayer in Halo 4) - online, splitscreen or both - what do I and my friends need in order to play?
Do I have to:
A) just start the multiplayer game the right way and start playing,
B) install disc 2 and possibly reinstall it in case something has gone wrong,
C) buy the Majestic Map Pack (and make all of my friends buy it too) to be able to play multiplayer free-for-all Slayer at all?
I personally think setting this up felt much easier in Halo: Reach, but it also might be that I have just misunderstood the set-up process somehow. So if anybody had the time and patience to clarify this for me, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks already for your help!

You are trying to create a custom game, correct? Did you try to change the map in the pre-game lobby?

Yeah, tried it today by going online alone and seemed to work, at least by joining team SWAT. Couldn’t see option for Slayer modes though. Did complain about missing map packs, but still allowed me to play.

Yes, tried to create a custom game and tried to change maps. The only one that worked was Forge Island template map.
One possibility popped into my mind - could it be that it doesn’t work because my brother possibly hasn’t installed disc 2 content or it has been corrupted for some reason? I have faint memories about reading a mention somewhere that it needs to be installed in order to play war games. Or is it that it must be installed in order to play at all?
Also, thanks for everybody willing to give their time and effort to help me with this. 
EDIT: I myself have installed disc 2 content on HDD.
Um… Try re installing it and if it does not work get back to me I might be able to fix it.

What do you mean by “worked”? We need more information than that. Did no other maps show up? Did they show up, but you couldn’t select them? Could you select them, but they wouldn’t load, so you couldn’t start the game? We need to know exactly what’s happening.
Also, yes, disc 2 content needs to be installed. You could probably try deleting and then reinstalling the content.
