I sure hope 343 makes the DLC manditory in order to play certain online playlists. If I’m going to pay $100 for the Limited Edition to get all the DLC, it better be required in those playlists. No more of this “if you have it cool, if you don’t we will still let you play” additude. I paid for all the DLC for Reach, and it never gets voted for. DLC needs to be required here on out. It’s only fair for the people that dished out the cash for DLC.
Most playlist should have require DLC. Just like Halo 3 time. Else I have to agree multiplayer maps have no purpose at all and should not even be made. Reach was an horrible way to deal with the DLC map pack.

Hey guys, i have been complaining about this for years, I have even come up with a suggestion which would be fairly easy for them to implement. Put an option in the matchmaking lobby that says “DLC ONLY”. You will only be partied up with people with your DLC thus you can play your DLC in any playlist anytime providing DLC maps are played in that playlist. Now we can all play our DLC and leave the people who don’t buy it to play with the others who don’t have it.

They tried this in Reach and it didn’t work. The problem with this method, is that 343 will eliminate playlists that have low populations. If you give the people options to buy or not buy the DLC, most won’t. Requiring it will basically force everyone to be on equal footing. With Reach, the DLC is mixed in with standard maps, thus enabling players to vote against DLC.

Yes NOT just the silly DLC playlists /
Yes reach failed with the DLC and map packs/
343I if we pay for the maps let us play them in MM not just in DLC only playlists

What they did was put a few lines of code that said "Hey if you can find someone that has this DLC and is searching exactly at this point and seems to fit the ranks and true skill stick them together, the chances of this happening 12 times for all players to have DLC is slim. In fact, in like 200 games of infection that I played over a few weeks I got 1 DLC map option and even then it was a load failure. Poor system and they need to stop catering for the people who don’t give them extra money and focus on those that do. The reason they don’t force DLC in all playlists is that many simply abandon the game and 343 loses money.
I agree. I have both the Noble and Defiant map packs in Reach and I haven’t played on either in months.

They should always make it required so we can actually play the maps we paid for.
> How many people get the DLC? You’ll be isolating most of the community if you do this. Don’t think that this’ll convince people to pay for the DLC - they’ll just move to another game.
Halo 3 and many other games basically force you into DLC. Most will buy it already. I feel like I just threw money out the window with Reach. You would think that when a DLC map shows up, people would vote for it. It never happens. The needs of the many outweigh the need of the few. The players that did buy the DLC get the shaft, for those who didn’t. Either way, 343 will lose business. Better to lose the business on non paying customers.

Valid point.
YES! Punish people for being poorer than other people! How about you go home to Communist Russia?
Required DLC absolutely killed Halo 3 for me - even though I bought the map packs, none of my friends did and we basically couldn’t play any multiplayer at all until ODST came out. DLC is an add-on for the game, those who spent £40 on the game disc and £40 a year for XBL are customers too, and they should be able to play. Having separate DLC only playlists with DLC maps sprinkled in to existing playlists is perfectly fine by me.
> YES! Punish people for being poorer than other people! How about you go home to Communist Russia?
Im not a Communist, however I am a tad socialist, and a tad capitalist. This is buisness 101. You get better support when you pay for something. Do you think that Microsoft cares if you can afford software for your computer? Are they going to give it to you for free because you can’t pay for it? No, why? Because people who pay for service and product get the best service. Its the same with the DLC, I paid for it to play, if someone can’t afford it, maybe they should not be spending money on xbox live, or monthly internet. Why should I be punished because someone can’t afford something. If I pay for something without getting a service or product, I’m entitled to a refund because said product or service was not delivered. Not trying to be rude, just stating fact.
no dlc only playlists
but also no being excluded because you dont have dlc
if all players in a game have it the chance should be big to get a dlc map
just my opinion
> If I pay for something without getting a service or product, I’m entitled to a refund because said product or service was not delivered. Not trying to be rude, just stating fact.
But your product was delivered - you paid for DLC maps, you downloaded said maps and you can play them.
I think it’s ridiculous to lock people out of matchmaking just because they didn’t spend 800 points on three maps. I mean really, we’re going to lock people out because they don’t have three maps? Even though they purchased the game, an Xbox 360, and an Xbox Live subscription.
It’s too much, and there’s too much competition in the multiplayer space (Battlefield, Call of Duty, Medal of Honour, Crysis, the list goes on) for 343i to really pull this off I think. The fact that DLC maps rarely show up in Reach at all should tell you something: that people simply aren’t interested in buying them, and forcing them in to doing so will just drive them away to other games.
I think that a good solution would be to add a “prefer DLC” search preference in Matchmaking - so that you can find people who have the map packs in standard playlists.
They should have it come out for a while then slowly make it required then drop the price later like in Halo 3.

True, but I am unable to utilize the maps to their full potential. I don’t really have a problem with the Halo 3 Mythic method. Every map goes into the hopper. Provided the players all have the DLC, the maps show up. For some reason with Reach, even when all players have the maps, they don’t show up as often as they should. If they could make this happen, I would be ok with it. As it stands now though, I wasted money on Reachs’ map packs. No one bought them. This is actually a problem for those who did buy them, and it’s an even bigger problem how it was dealt with.

If you WANT to pay the extra for something that SHOULD be in the game anyway then that’s YOUR problem.
What right do you have to tell people what they will and will not spend their money on?
As for the ‘Capitalist’ it’s thanks to the Capitalists that the world is in the economic state it’s in now.
If you want to pay the extra then please, be my guest. Don’t punish people for not deficating money.
So let me get this straight.
You think it’s a good idea COMPLETELY bar off multiplayer from me, because I didn’t feel like buying DLC, which is ALREADY DONE, and therefore, SHOULD NOT BE DLC IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Has anyone else not been seriously annoyed that having DLC available on the first day kinda defeats the motivation for having DLC?
I thought DLC was there to expand on an existing game. Why, if the content is completed before launch, should it even be DLC to begin with?
To summarize my point:

By the way, I do agree that DLC maps need to be featured more often, this just does not seem like the right way to handle it.
