Require the DLC now that it's free, please!

If 343i were serious about this whole free DLC for the 360 games thing they would go in and make every playlist require all the DLC. If they don’t do that then it’s not going to matter that the DLC is free. You’ll still be locked out of still being able to actually utilize any of it.

What a non-issue.

The DLC is free, so a whole bunch of people are obviously going to get it. Definitely enough to populate the playlists. The existence of this thread confuses me, I’ll be honest. You’re saying that people won’t download the FREE DLC because… no reason? It sounds like you’re making up issues to be disgruntled about.

I really hate to pop your Bubble Shield OP, but Glitched Punk is right. It would be an outrage if people had to pay for the map packs for their favourite games…AGAIN.

If you don’t force it then there are 100% going to be people that choose not to download it, and that will do nothing but hurt the playlists and the game as a whole.

Why wouldn’t they download them? They’re free.
Sure maybe some people might not but I doubt that would be the majority.

No.If they dont want it,they dont need to.

It makes no sense to hate on something that could happen. And also, it seems fairly obvious, to me at least, that the people who do download the DLC will massively outweigh those who don’t. And again, what basis do you have for anything you’re saying?

Let me try and get into your mindset:

If England don’t win the next World Cup I’m going to be so mad! In fact, I may as well be mad now for the hell of it!

I’m not mad lol. I’m trying to make the best possible experience. Maybe you don’t force people to download the DLC packs, but the playlists have to require the DLC to play. If not then they are splitting the player base up.

Just because it’s free doesn’t mean that people will download it. The games with gold every month show that.

If 1 player in a lobby doesn’t download the DLC then no one in that lobby will be able to play those maps. 1 in 8 is all it takes for the free DLC to be rendered basically useless.

Well considering how many people were shouting for H3A, and that this is the next best thing, I doubt that is going to be an issue.
Really, taking choice away from people isn’t the answer to stuff.

The DLC is free. You can get it for literally no cost. By not requiring it though it would limit the effect of making it free in the first place. What would the point of free DLC be if you can’t ever get matches on those maps because 1 of the people in the lobby chose to not download it?

It doesn’t hurt anyone to require the DLC in playlists now that it’s all free. But not requiring it does hurt the experience.

Nope sorry your logic is wrong, wrong, WRONG! Requiring DLC DOES hurt the experience because there are some people who just don’t want it for whatever reason, not enough harddrive space or they just don’t like the maps included and that’s entirely understandable but requiring DLC to play matchmaking is asinine, bordering between “stupid” and “out of your mind”! Now I’m not calling YOU personally any of these terms, but rather this type of mindset. You can’t go around forcing people to download things they don’t want/need just to claim it “hurts the experience” because it really doesn’t. Choice of play is an important staple of Halo and MCC along with Halo 5 have pretty much burned that bridge to the ground.

It honestly blows my mind that so many people don’t think that it’s common sense to require the DLC now that it is free. It seems like a no-brainer. Doing so would be giving more content and allowing everyone to actually take advantage of that content. I’m willing to bet that more than 10% of the player base will NOT download the DLC, even though it’s free, and that essentially makes it useless. 1 out of 8 players is all that’s needed to ruin the free DLC promise. 1 out of 16 in BTB! 6%! 6% of the player base of a game shouldn’t ruin it for everyone else. It’s not like they aren’t able to play the game. No pay walls are going up. It’s stubbornness ruining it for everyone else.

If there was a pay wall, I’d agree with you, but there’s not, so, like I said, it blows my mind.

I’m sure some people won’t download the free DLC due to HDD space running low. Unfortunately, I doubt they’ll be required since it would mean changing playlists in a game that hasn’t changed its playlists in many years.

You are absolutely correct OP, don’t listen to the people in this thread. In all probability, they are not regular players of the 360 Halo games, so they don’t actually have any idea what they’re talking about. DLC should definitely be required now, because otherwise I doubt we see a DLC map come up in a single lobby, and nothing will change. The assumption that most people will download this DLC now is absurd. Yes, people on this site may know its free, but I seriously doubt the average gamer is aware of this fact. People forget that we are in a bubble on this site, comprised of highly motivated Halo fans. The average person definitely does not fit this description, and if DLC isn’t required then ignorance and laziness will prevent all but a handful of individuals from acquiring the DLC. Now Halo 3 has plenty of DLC only playlists, so the situation may be tolerable there, but for something like Halo 4 with no DLC only playlists? Yeah, good f*****g luck getting a group of randoms who all have DLC downloaded for that.

As you said OP, it absolutely blows my mind that someone could be against this. It makes me strongly suspect the people who replied above don’t actually play Halo 360 titles, because if they did they would understand the absurdity of their arguments.

Yeah I’m equally dumbfounded by this logic. Requiring the DLC for matchmaking isn’t taking away choice, it gives you more choice. Just because you have the DLC maps doesn’t take away your ability to play the original maps. If it isn’t required then people excited about downloading all the maps for free will be disappointed because they might not show up in matchmaking. Luke’s logic is sound.

Yeah and there would be an easy solution to this problem by making a pop up or something on the main menu of these older Halo titles to let everyone know, "Hey all the maps are now free, please download them as they are required for certain playlists. " It literally gives you more choice by expanding the map pool and takes nothing away from the experience.

.

I’m happy that I’m not the only person that sees this as a good thing. Lol
