Requiem: A planet in a planet in a planet?

I was watching the preview for the level Forerunner when I noticed that Del Rino said that they were picking up an IFF tag near the planet’s core. I thought nothing much of this, since they’re in the planet, but then I read this article, which states that we’re moving towards the planets core in the mission Forerunner.

Could it be that Requiem is a planet, within a planet, within a planet? This could explain how the level Forerunner is dark, when every other level we’ve seen is not, as well as the different-looking sky in the background of Forerunner. It might even explain the different colors, but I have a feeling that there’s a more complicated explanation then that. It also makes sense that the Didact’s Cryptum is located within the inner core, as it would need to be well protected.

I’m pretty sure Requiem is just a Planetoid encased in a shell.

That’s pretty much what I’m saying, but with another layer.

Requiem is a Forerunner Shield World, or more accurately, a Conservation sphere. The planet that other Shield Worlds would have been made out of, is still completely intact and not used as resources. It is encased by a metallic shell, with an artificial lighting system. When referring to the planets core, Del Rio was likely under the impression that Requiem was a normal planet, and that there was no second planet. So to him, Chief is at the core, but in actuality, he isn’t.

Which is why I also referred to the article, though it just now occurs to me that I didn’t provide a link, I’ll have that up shortly.

I can’t believe nobody made a Planetception joke yet.

As for the topic, the way Onyx worked, I really would not be surprised in the least to see it have various layers of reality built one atop another.

Since it appears to be an artificial Planet, i guess it is built up of an artificial core that can be accessed, then the actually planet and finally the planets shell. TBH, i want to know what we will be doing for mission 2, as it seems we come across Prometheans for the first time in mission 3.

Yo dawg I heard you like planets so we put a planet in your planet within the planet so you can planet while you planet while you planet!

That may be a good theory though. It would explain the darkness of the level, as well as where the Didact would be considering that he would put himself in the most safe area.

I could see a Onyx type situation where the planets ground and surface is just an illusion really. Or the person could just be talking about chief being inside the shield world.

This is exactly what I thought when I saw the footage of that mission.

From what we’ve seen, which isn’t much, it seems to be mostly exploration. If this is true, it would make sense that we haven’t seen much of it, as that would ruin the exploration feeling.
