My first post on here (and wow I don’t even have Halo 5 I’m even worse off than I already was).
Anyways, I’ve seen most if not all REQs in Halo 5, and while I really love the idea of Halo’s weapon/vehicle sandbox being expanded (I loved the Halo Reach weaponry heavily), I would much rather see weapons that aren’t just boosted versions of the default guns with some changes here and there with paintjobs.
Now, I have doubts that anything will really change, but I’d like to get my thoughts and suggestions out there, maybe we could see things change with Halo 6.
REQ changes:
Designs: I’d like to see models change for each REQ. Perhaps not too much difference, but just enough to show that its a different weapon. An example would be Void’s Tear having a more streamlined appearance like in previous games, or The Pool of Radiance having its fuel rods reloaded similarly like it is in the past games. Obviously there are many more ideas here, but I don’t want to make this post any bigger than it already is. In some cases, it would affect how the weapon plays.
Bolt Action Normfang anyone?
Stats: Now I get it; REQs are supposed to have progression. I agree with this and I don’t want every weapon to be on par with one another. But, I’d like to see each REQ have at least a small downside compared to its upsides. I know some reqs already feature this; some have more damage but slightly less firerate for example, but for the most part, most reqs are just straight upgrades.
Like I previously said, adding a feature to a high tier req; such as making the Normfang bolt action; would increase its uniqueness and make it a bit less of a sniper rifle with one hit kill rounds. There’s plenty of other ways this could go; one of the shotguns (say the Oathsworn) could be made semi or perhaps fully automatic at a cost of damage and maybe increased recoil, but it would still hold a bit of an edge over the base shotgun, you’d just need to put more rounds into your target.
Lastly, I’ve got a couple new REQ ideas with mockup descriptions because why not:
Sticky Detonator: A small, compact, tool of destruction. While it was considered to have a lack of explosive capability due to its single shot nature, it is still preferred by ONI teams, who make heavy use of the weapon in breaching. Features grenades that stick to targets which can be detonated by its user.
Loved this little thing in Halo 4 and would like to see it make a comeplay, could supplement the Grenade Launcher really well.
Tactical SMG: Suppressed submachine gun with caseless armor piercing rounds and a 2x VISR scope designed for stealthy operations.
Similar in function to the Tactical Magnum. This would obviously be the ODST Variant of the SMG. Comes with a 2x scope and a suppressor, as well as featuring a quicker reload (due to it having the magazine on the side). Has 48 rounds instead of 60.
Concussion Rifle: Specialized heavy explosive launcher used by high ranking Sangheili. Features explosive projectiles with heavy knockback. Good counter to light vehicles.
Fun weapon to play around with in 4 and Reach and I don’t see a reason for it not to come back, I think it would be a good alternative to the Plasma Caster.
Elite Plasma Rifle: Standard weapon of the Sangheili for centuries. The Plasma Rifle features high damage and range but has a noticeable lack of fire rate compared to more modern variants.
This weapon would just be your basic Plasma Rifle; slower fire rate and higher damage over the Brute Plasma Rifle, as well as featuring a slighter different design (The ‘stocks’ would be the same size as opposed to one being bigger than the other on the Brute Plasma Rifle and it would likely be a bit bigger as well).
Mauler: Powerful close range weapon favored by the Brutes for its compact size and use in melee. It was often given to high ranking Brutes with Active Camouflage for close quarters combat. Features heavy close range damage and enhanced melee capabilities.
Favorite gun from Halo 3, even if I didn’t really use it that much (BR ftw). I think it would be an interesting weapon and would be a good counter against shotguns, could go with the Brute Plasma Rifle or the Gravity Hammer really well.
AutoMag Magnum: Fully automatic Magnum using smaller caliber rounds with an increased magazine size and rate of fire.
Think the Gunfighter Magnum but on steroids. This Magnum would feature at least a 20 round magazine, full automatic fire, less recoil, but with the downside of having less damage.
I’d have more ideas here but I don’t want a super massive post. Any thoughts or feedback? And is there anything you’d like to see in the future?
