Hello Halo community, a quick disclaimer before I begin. I like the REQ system, but I feel like its too slow. What im about to suggest is going to be directed towards those who are new, unfamiliar, dont have much playing time, dont have much time in the day to play, and so on. You dedicated level 100+ fans (Who are awesome! ) who have almost or all of the currently available REQ’s, please vote your opinion anyways as you’ve been through it all, so you guys should hold a fair opinion.
So what I think of the system so far. Ive been a day one Halo 5 player, I am about to reach level 100, and Ive bought a fair few packs, and both req bundles. Now I am only about half way through all the REQ’s in the game as of this moment. Here is a few things I feel that are a problem:
You don’t earn enough REQ points from games
You don’t earn enough over time
REQ’s shouldnt be just awarded from time played and winning
A pay to win method shouldn’t be empathized or be a “Gateway” option
REQ Boosts don’t seem to be rewarded enough
Matchmaking doesn’t help with REQ rewarding either
Now I know 343 have tried to compensate for some of this with pay to win methods, like the REQ bundles, Warzone vehicle packs, etc. However, 343 trying to make us fork out our own money for in game content shouldnt be the way to go, I mean, look at Activision currently. Their game communities and fanbases are in full agro right now over micro transactions, ever since the launch of COD: Advanced Warfare, and its not looking good for them long term wise as they are trying to fork players out of cash in return for a terrible game experience. That’s not where Halo is heading. Instead, Halo is trying to put itself back on the map by using our finds to promote competitive players. Now if these finds where going back to Halo 5, Halo wars 2, future halo projects, Hell even MCC, we’d be in a lot better position than now.
But now for solutions! Considering all thats above, Im going to give my solutions as to what I believe will make this system better and less “Pay for competitive”.
Firstly, I HATE how REQ’s are only rewarded on 2 things, win/loss and in-game time. This is stupid. If people don’t have much time to play its going to take them forever, probably more than Halo 5’s lifespan, to collect all the REQ’s, which is very unfair as many people can gain an advantage if they are more fortunate than others. I know its just a matter of life, but I mean it’d be nice to try and show even more equality to players. I feel like REQ’s need to be rewarded in multiple ways. (Warning: About to go into Reach quote mode) Firstly, still have REQ’s being rewarded for time in game and winning or loosing, it makes sense to gain more REQ’s for winning and for playing 1 match for lets say 20 minutes. Next we need to be rewarded for Independent skill and team skill. What I mean by this is that you can get rewarded from your own feats (Kills, KDA, Medals, overall performance essentially) And team feats (Assists, objective captures, Team takedowns, etc). Also im want to take a page out of Reach’s book and have a nice random REQ bonus rewarded to each player at the end of each game, with weekend chances at a jackpot bonus from a weekend playlist.
Now to packs themselves. I feel like prices are very balanced. However, firstly, I feel like Gold packs should reward rare tier and above, to prevent annoying uncommon emblems and armors from appearing when you only have like 3 uncommon items left to collect. Next I would love to see a all round premium pack being added to Halo for 20k points, which works like they do now, 3 permanent items from rare and above with one being a guaranteed ultra rare. This would definitly help those who are going for the big boy items, with a risk at only getting your average day at the office rares. However, Id also like to see packs that are dedicated to cosmetics and game play introduced, with only silver and gold varients of them being available. This would help those who are only dedicated to arena or warzone get the REQ’s they want, whilst still maintaining that RNG feel.
Now im going to take another page out of Reach’s book and say that 343 should add daily, weekly and monthly challenges back into Halo 5, which can reward both xp and REQ points. I’d also like to see commendations reward REQ’s as well, instead of progress packs (Which are pretty much useless). I also feel like the daily win packs should be better rewarding, like give a player a random REQ/XP payout that can be low to really high if your lucky enough, as well as a guaranteed rare drop and at least 1 REQ boost card.
To sum all of this up really, The REQ system is more broken and useless that Palmer saying “We can still destroy the enemy core” When the enemy team has 900 points with level 9 REQ’s available on a triple cap to when your team has 100 points with only level 3 REQ’s available.
