REQ Packs - Weapon/Vehicle Certifications

So the new Requisition (REQ) system in Halo 5. I personally don’t mind it. But this topic is not about whether you like it or not.

Instead, I’m going talk about the weapon and vehicle certifications. They come as permanent unlocks in REQ packs, which then increase your chances of getting that particular weapon/vehicle in subsequent packs. (e.g. Getting a Rocket Launcher certification in a pack, will make it more likely for me to get more Rocket Launchers in my packs) Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but the while the certifications increase those chances, past a certain point, getting more of these certifications will cause those odds to go back down.

Hear this logic:

Let’s say you get 10 one-time-use cards in a Gold pack (probably not true). If I have 5 different certifications, fine. Maybe I like them, maybe I don’t. But either way, the 10 cards will more than likely contain the items that I have certifications for, because of how the certifications work.

But then now I have 10 certifications. It is quite likely that all my 10 one-time-use cards will be items that I have the certifications for.

Fast forward a little bit, I have 20 certifications. Now, the chances of getting any given item that I have a certification for, have gone down, because there are 20 certifications and only 10 possible (and repeatable) items. Of course, compared to when I had 10 certifications.

What I’m trying to get at is: What’s the point of certifications after that certain point??? (10-certification mark, in my example) Is it not counter-productive to have so many certifications? Half of which, I probably don’t really want.

Perhaps a clearer picture:

I got a Scorpion Tank certification. (yay)
I started getting loads of Scorpions in my packs.
I got a Plasma Pistol certification. (not so yay, but I can deal)
I started getting loads of Plasma Pistols in my packs.

Fast-forward to having 20 different certifications.
Now I hardly get any Scorpion Tanks now because of the 19 other certifications that I have. I’m now just as/more likely to get all of those in my limited pack items, as I am the Scorpion Tank. My Scorpion certification is now less useful to me.

DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?
Or am I crazy?

*** Please correct me if my logic/theory is wrong ***
Any thoughts, guys?

I think the point is that when you start out you’ll get certs for useless guns like bolt shots and needlers. As time goes on, you’ll get scorpions, snipers and rail guns, etc. By the time you have all the certs, the spread from opening packs is going to even out. The downside is you will no longer get tons of scorpions, snipers, rail guns etc. However you won’t get tons of needlers, plasma pistols and and bolt shots either.

It seems that if you had a lower number of certifications (and good certifications at that), you could stack your purchases with Bronze packs (cheap and only has a “chance” to drop a permanent card) to acquire a large number of them.

Personally, I think it would be better if you could delete/sell certifications that you’re not interested in so that the player could have more control over the kinds of cards they would get more often.

Players might be getting too many of the REQs that they want that way. 343 want this to be, largely, a random system. Personally, I would like to be able to have more control over the REQs I get, but overall it wouldn’t be good for balance.

Makes sense. But who is to say which certifications I get? It’s a random system. I don’t think there’s a real answer to this. It has to be balanced out somehow.

It should also be noted that getting certs doesn’t increase your chance of getting those items, it’s literally the only chance of getting those items. They will not otherwise drop. (save the initial variety of 1 item we got from most classes to start.)

No me parece q todo sea al azar ya cualquiera hasta los que no se esfuerzan podrán tener las mejores armaduras

I guess we’re all simply at the mercy of those fortunate enough to get sniper and rocket certs early. Myself, I’ve been lucky enough to get regular and ‘urban’ scout hogs - watch out!

Basically it’s a certification that you can now get these items. Got a Scorpion Tank certification? You’ll be getting those a lot more often in your coming Req packs. A few certifications later you’re now getting less and less, but you are still getting the odd 2-3 in a pack.

I fortunately have the Scorpion and Gauss Hog certs, but the Mongoose certs makes the cheap packs worthless.
