I dont know how people overlook this so often but it’s VERY obvious Req packs did not influence the DLC of this game in any way, shape or form. You wanna know how I know this, it’s pretty obvious actually, just think about it, how did these packs influence each update if the updates were already announced before they EVER came out!? How do people fall for this stuff? For those of you not catching on let me explain.
Since ALL of the updates were announced before they ever came out that shows us that these “updates” were already planned to be released no matter how much money they got from Reqs. It’s not like they would just cancel them because they didn’t get enough money from Req’s, because if that did happen a riot would start. They PROMISED us these updates before they even received any money from Req’s, therefore one can infer that Req’s are nothing more than a scam that don’t positively affect the franchise in any way.
Again, can anybody tell me how these req packs affected the DLC?
If you want validation that micro-transactions did not pay for the DLC then look at this clip and skip to 1:06 does that map look familiar at all? Of course it does, OK now look at the date the trailer was revealed.
Inb4 the “should have been in at launch” or “they held it back you sheep” BS that people convince themselves to believeBut yeah. I figured a good amount of the proceeds going to the prize pools would have made this a bit more obvious, I guess it must be more fun to stir the pot rather than using common sense like you, OP.
As for the reason? Console gamers look at optional transactions as some sort of greed and yet find that paying content in advance is an okay thing through season passes.
I actually agree with you. Im pretty unhappy they decided to stop with the monthly updates because they could do some amazing things to make halo 5 the best of all. There is no reason we shouldn’t be getting more if the req packs actually payed for updates. The updates they released they planned from doing it from beginning lets be frank. We all know they planned on doing it like that to draw attention and keep people interested which is kinda ridiculous if you ask me. So if the req packs are paying for updates (minus what goes to HCS) which have been selling pretty strong tbh for more then 9 months. So no, buying req packs doesn’t support the game. It just lines the pockets of Microsoft. Sure they made a great game and you could say they finished the game with those updates. But not more then that and people thought this is what the req packs purpose was for. Im not trying to stir the pot or anything this is just my feelings on the matter.

Do you not see that there is a whole thread currently up called “Does anyone actually care about Halo 5 E-Sports”. ( With a majority saying no) Why should we pay for something that not that many people care about? Also correct me if I’m wrong but isnt Microsoft a multi-billion dollar company? Why do they need money from the everyday citizen to help fund the tournaments that no one cares about?
Also, if you dont remember, they heavily advertised that micro-transactions are in the game to help pay for DLC and a SMALL portion would go to the E-sports (which again, is dumb), and yet you’re here telling me that micro transactions are only there to pay for E-Sports…
“As a reminder, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of any REQ packs (including the Warzone REQ Bundle) will be added to the prize pool for the Halo World Championship we announced at gamescom, as well as supporting the release of free maps & REQ content post-launch.”

Not that I’ve ever heard of. And if they did announce it themselves then there is officially no good reason to keep micro-transactions in the game besides greed.

I see the thread, I’m just apathetic towards looking at it because of the trite hate train that MLG/eSports has had as far back as the B.net days. And this forum hardly represents a discernable majority.
Also, where did I say that REQs only pay for eSports? I said a good amount. Modest probably would have been more proper, but if you’re going to jump my case over a single word… Maybe you should stop thinking things in absolutes.
And you started your thread advocating that REQs don’t pay for DLC, and yet say that this is the case in a subsequent post? This doesn’t really help your case as much as you generalizing my intent to a extreme.
There are people who still believe REQs pay for free updates. If the game launches with contents we want, there will be no need for DLC. REQ is just a joke that 343 made.

Yup. If anything the next updates we get will be funded from the req money generated thus far.
Oh my… this changes… absolutely nothing. It worked. Whether it’s right or wrong, the req system made tons of profit that wouldn’t have been made either way. It also delivered on the promise of not being pay to win. The only real advantage in the game is group play.
As for this topic, firefight was not planned at launch. They announced dlc, but it wasn’t until earlier this year (3 months post launch) they actually named what the theme of each update would be. It seemed to me, minus Forge, each update got better.
In short, req didn’t hurt anyone. Staggered release sucks, but dlc is all gaming companies do nowadays. It’s the most profitable model for them. Until people start talking with their wallet, it’s not going to stop. Even if someone comes up with an “original” thread like this.
Edit: and to answer your question, they announced updates. They could very well have been one map and one armor or some such combo. Content was not set. You or anyone else who is not an employee of 343 have no idea how req effected update content.

If REQs prove to be a profitable model (they have), then you can expect to see “free” DLC in later Halo titles as it essentially subsidizes paid DLC. If it had failed to gain profit, then it would definitely revert to a more standard paid model like a season pass or individual paid DLC’s.
Obviously DLC is planned out well in advance and isn’t thought up on a month-month basis.
This is how REQ’s pay for DLC. They allow for a continuously united community while still reaping considerable post-launch profit from add-ons.

I never meant for this to change anything kinda obvious in fact. I just found it funny that not that many people bring up this topic when they mention how “amazing” the req system is.
Also reqs do hurt, they sabotage game design as now maps have to be designed with every weapon in mind, they hurt newer players as they wont have anything to protect themselves from veteran player, they hurt people that play this game mode because games are not based on teamwork its based on who has the better reqs.
Dont tell me reqs dont damage the game.

I expect “free” dlc in this title not future titles, they advertised it as the reqs would help influence the game when in fact they did not, thats called false advertisement.

The REQ system needs to be removed. When you keep saying REQ pays for updates, what is going to be your reaction when 343 adds paid DLC along with micro-transaction? Will you say that must stay to Halo, because it pays developers?

Req doesn’t damage the game. There is still arena which counters all of those points except the teamwork one which is just wrong. You’ve quoted other threads so I’ll pick a few search farming. You’ll see that teamwork is the only thing that matters in this game.
The req system isn’t ideal, but it’s better than a player based divided behind a $25 season pass paywall.

Was it only $25 last time? I thought it was considerably more.
Either way, that’s the alternative. A model where you HAVE to pay to keep up-to-date with maps and add-ons.

Not everyone wants to go try hard every match, arena is not a valid substitution for many people’s quenches.
Instead of having any post release content that we need to pay for how about they just make it free? Why do we need to pay in the first place? Thats how games where back then.
Or they can make the req system be less intrusive to the gameplay if they really want to keep it, for example packs only provide cosmetic items, if you dont believe that will work then go look at overwatch, its working out fine.
There are tons of better systems than the system currently in place

Dont you want the most for your money? Why settle for less when you know it doesnt have to be that way? I know there are WAY worse microtransaction heavy games cough COD cough but that doesnt mean this game has to settle for just barely above the bar.
