Many people were saying they would rather have micro because that means we get FREEEEE DLC. well guess what? look what happened to halo 5. we’re not getting dlc, we are getting ripped off and then the content is given back to us as ‘free content’.
In my opinion, actual dlc shows that the developers are confident in the longevity of their game and is a better alternative to microtransactions.
Now in the start with Forge and gametypes, then yes.
However, seeing as there is coming actual maps, then no. That would be DLC if it wasn’t for REQs.
I am all for REQs as long as the developers start churning out some original content. i343 is just at the beginning and they did mess up royally on that point, but I doubt they ripped out enough content for their monthly support to last a year, let alone two if that’s their plan. Future will tell us.
While Halo Wars 2 would benefit from REQs as long as it’s not game changing at all in the slightest, and there’s no cut content, then yes. I’m all for it, however, I’m worried about the actual studio developing it, wether it be REQs or even DLC. Did you know their new game, Total War: Warhammer had an actual “essential” race as a pre-order bonus? Now I haven’t followed that game in the slightest except seen a few trailers, but even the waves made from the backlash in that community reached my attention.
So if you’re worried about REQs, in this case, DLC could be worrying too.
Although Microtransactions are harmful to the game and its community, actual DLC is much worse for said elements. DLC is known to split the community and more often than not the DLC Content’s value only last for a month after its release and if your paty later on actually bought it. In the other hand microtransactions means you have cosmetic or miniscule changes to gameplay. Your entire argument isn’t true or is an opinion.
“we’re not getting DLC” We are getting actual DLC there were many maps released this update.
“actual dlc shows that the developers are confident in the longevity of their game” DLC is known to teardown the longevity of games.
Maybe I am just old an jaded but I rather not have either. I rather have a complete game that can stand up on its own and the multiplayer gets continual support, especially if it needs it. Yes, I agree that DLC is harmful to communities and almost a waste of money since most players, especially after years of bland DLC and “season passes” (which sometimes is included on the disc you already purchased but publishers/developers want you to pay extra to be allowed access), avoid spending their money on such things but I rather have more content available to the community than have a pay to win micro transaction scheme put in place.
Showing my age a little now, but I remember when developers regularly released map packs for free and provided their community with the tools and resources to make their own content for free. Games like Quake III and the original Counter-Strike are still alive today because of things like that…but then again that’s a PC thing and I don’t need to get started on the pros and cons of PCs and consoles.
What 343 did right:
free maps/ content for free
What 343 did wring:
create a reward system that makes you want to drop $20 to get a specific armor, weapon
I think we should get an unlock system like Reach so people can target the armor that they want rather than it being pot luck or random. If this is the cost of say ‘free maps’ it should be worth it (especially if the micro-transaction system doesn’t bother you). I personally wasn’t blown away by the new maps. Hopefully the new ones I’ll find to be better. I like that they added new req’s but this also means more grinding to get the new ones and the old ones since their is now MORE to get.
Yeah it would be a good idea but as you said look what happened with halo 5 half the game at launch then the “free” dlc has been crappy forge and remixed maps so far or things that should of been at launch
I don’t see what has been “Torn from the grasps of what remains in the fanbase” I mean a couple of maps (which doesnt really matter since we already have a lot of maps already) and some gamemodes? I mean I don’t get it. The lack of gamemodes is annoying but they never announced them and they are bound to return soon.
So I don’t see how you are ripped off, cause the only thing missing from Halo 5 is 5 gamemodes.
OT: I personally don’t see how Microtransactions could work for Halo Wars 2. I’d rather see DLC as that means we won’t be buying XP boosts.
Exactly! People are always saying halo 5 is terrible but I see it as a great game. People are also complaining about things which were talked about well before the game came out and are saying it was never discussed.
Micro transactions could work but I would prefer not to see them in the game. Still won’t stop me from playing the game though

the only way microtransaction work on games is if they dont effect gameplay and are optional like halo 5
Any Paid content should have no effect on the game. So things like unit skins, base decals would be fine. Having to pay for additional maps or modes ( like in Halo Wars) split the community resulting in limited playability of the DLC content after just a few months.
Additional units, races, anything that can effect online multiplayer balance should not be a pay option.
It depends, the req system is a bit of a hit and miss because you can’t unlock stuff that you want everything is random. like others said i also can’t see how halo wars 2 could use req packs.
