So we now know the reason why the wraith looks so different in Halo 5 is because its an ancient Sangheili design which is easier to manufacture and less costly to lose(so its essentially a downgraded wraith) .
My idea is this, why not bring back the old Wraith seen in previous games as a REQ? Give it more health/armor than the normal Halo 5 wraith, maybe counter it with slightly slower boost speed.
Sure why not, I don’t see why things like this certainly can’t be added after launch. I think with req packs etc in warzone and if they really take off and people start purchasing them then we will see lots of customisation added post launch. People who are worrying about missing armours, weapons and vehicles etc I don’t think should worry because I think pretty much anything can be added in with the Warzone game mode and req packs.
Upgrades/downgrades are more about powerlevel and such, not so much do to cost reductions. The AK-47 is still one of the best rifles made though it is simple and cheap. The SCAR-series, while modular with many parts, is more expensive and in theory more combat diverse than an AK-47. But all those fancy parts actually lead to a less than reliable combat tool relative to the AK.
The Covenant put a lot of effort into aesthetics over functionality. The “older” new Wraith can be more effective overall because its mortar, though seemingly reduced in splash radius, has increased in travel speed. As well, if it’s true there’s less armour (lore or in-game), an increase in mobility speed is almost always a greater benefit on the battlefield than using increased armour/health at the expense of mobility.
I’m not too concerned with having to have the classic Wraith as it’s all new. If there isn’t an urban-Wraith whereby the driver can use multi-turrets ala H2 model and the mobility is slower but a slight increase in health, then yes, make that model look like the more “classic” look.

Not when the vehicle is heavy tank/artillery. The wraith isn’t supposed to be speedy and maneuverable, its supposed to fire from a distance at a secured location in a combination artillery and anti-vehicle role.

Well wouldn’t you want it to be highly mobile to re-position to avoid incoming fire if its artillery. In-fact modern self-propelled guns which the wraith is based on are much lighter armored than MBT’s.

We’re also using 21st century human military strategy on a 26th century alien vehicle.
I dont see why they should. Not everything needs a classic version.
If they do make classic variations of anything, it should be something radically different from the source. Not just because some power boost, speed increase or higher defense.
Like a classic M90 shotgun makes sense as a REQ because it would have more damage, longer range and double the magazine size of the Halo 5 shotgun.
Or the MA5B because it has nearly twice the mag size for less the damage but double the fire rate.
I think that’s a very reasonable idea. 343 has already gone on record saying they will support this game well after release with hundreds more req cards. There are bound to be some crowd pleaser cards in there, like a classic wraith…or a Halo 2 battle rifle…

I don’t think it’s nimble enough to stop someone from hijacking, or bombing them with a grenade. Unless they up the mobility as well, the extra armor won’t mean anything.

The extra armor would force the hijacker to spend more time ripping it off to get the grenade in there allowing your teammates more time to put a bullet in their head.

Well considering modern artillery has been around for 200 years or so i doubt 343 can come up with a better strategy therefor its safe to assume this is what the wraith is intended to be used as. And since its main armament is a mortar and not line of sight weapon is fair to assume its not an MBT therefore high maneuverability is key.

Let me ask you this, even if the Wraith technically isnt a MBT isnt that the role its essentially been playing in each game?

Chances are, you won’t be really THAT close to anyone, it’s Warzone. It only takes what, 2-3 hits to open a regular one? So, even at 5-6 hits, it takes barely any time. Even 10 hits only takes a few seconds. Not nearly enough time for anyone to be called to help you, not worth the sacrifice of mobility in my opinion

Except even used as an MBT, it fails against scorpions unless it really uses the terrain to its advantage. It’s an awkward, slow moving target that makes it vulnerable to both rocket launchers and tank shots. It never leads a charge and is usually supported by infantry or ghosts while it stays somewhat back.
The new design seems to mostly sacrifice rear armor for mobility, a rather insignificant loss.

I guess it really depends on what you want the wraith to do. I could see both having their uses. However saying the loss of rear armor is insignificant is not true, especially when its rear is the wraith’s biggest weakpoint.
I’d take almost everything classic over anything new at this point…simply because I know it’d be fun and a sound competitive/classic game. I hate how 343 treats ghosts like goddamned tanks, and let you be shot out of a Warthog gunner by people on foot in 10 seconds. It ruins the vehicular aspect the original trilogy and even Reach offered that was so imperative to making Halo a unique experience.
