Replaying the series

Hey guys

I am getting back into the halo lore again after a short hiatus but i am now replaying the series and reading the books.

It’s funny how my views of the games have changed, i was dissapointed with the story of Reach but now i quite like it, Halo 3 i found more difficuilt as the shield empties very quickly and takes a lot longer than i remembered.

Halo 4 IMO is…the best of the series. The controls are updated and not just to mirror modern games but it also makes me feel more like playing as a spartan. What kind of spartan would not be able to run or have to use a power up to run like in reach. Also the characterisation of cortana and chief are amazing. The covenant feel like a threat like they did in reach. Also the feeling of isolation being on requiem, you feel like you are on a completely unknown and alien planet and have no idea what to expect. Would live to see a forerunner prequel game or trilogy.

Next on ny list is ODST, unfortunately i sold my Xone do don’t have access to halo 5 but i remember the story being very dissapointing, where was the didact?

It is incredible how much more there is to the story of Halo games when you have extended knowledge of the lore. Suddenly the UNSC are in a morally grey area, the covenant are a big bad; the forerunners are a devastated society and every character has so much background. Even Jenkins from CE.

You aren’t missing out on much with Halo 5, and I cannot suggest buying it for the story (but the multiplayer is still great if you want to play that). The actual campaign itself was poorly executed despite some really cool moments. And Cortana was in it as opposed to the Didact. I usually think it’s silly watching just the cutscenes of a game, but if you want to catch up or remember the story of Halo 5, just do that unless you really really want to get all the world details, data logs and characters.

And if you really loved Halo 4 then don’t forget to cycle through the Spartan Ops chapters - that was some of the best story-telling in the entire franchise.

You don’t have to get another xbox one to watch the campaign cut scenes for Halo 5 - that’s why we have youtube. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is hardly even worth playing in my opinion - sorry TimeKeeper.

You know…I’m ashamed to say it but i never really got far in the spartan ops episodes. Not sure why, Possibly as i was just playing the MP so much but i remember there was an issue playing them coop, Did it have matchmaking? And i didn’t have a friend ( still don’t) to play them online with. i will def play them after the campaign.

Apparently the Didact got composed or something in a comic between 4 and 5… guess they felt it wasn’t important to tell the game only community what happened in the games lol The plot for H5 is alright in my opinion, the problem is that they tried to do too much in too short of a campaign and it very much showed. Execution was not good. Also you play as Locke and his boring team (except Buck) for the majority of the campaign. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the only missions I enjoyed were the ones where you were playing as Blue Team fighting covenant instead of Osiris fighting Prometheans.

From a game play standpoint Spartan Ops can be a little repetitive, but you don’t have to play it to watch the scenes that introduce each of the ten chapters. You can watch them in the game itself or just go here:

And yes, some of the missions are available in matchmaking, or used to be, but not all, and you can't watch the story beforehand if you play them that way.

That feel like a spartan argument bothers me.You already can flip vehicles and have the armor and shielding but because we cant sprint that apparently is not very spartan like.Ever since they made people “feel” like they were Spartans the franchise has been losing its popularity.Maybe most people were content with how it was and they didnt need to fix something that wasn’t broken

The only problem is that Halo 4 is the easiest Halo to play on legendary. I really don’t understand the Covenant being a threat in that game.

H4 was the most fun halo campaign
