Now that we don’t have Active Camo and Overshield powerups anymore I think we should replace them with something new, something that would work with the new Halo 4 style. What I would suggest is an upgrade powerup. This powerup would be situated around the map just like AC and OS were in past Halo games. What the powerup does depends on what ability you choose to spawn with. The upgrade powerup would upgrade your Armor Ability to a more powerful version of itself.
Let’s say you choose to spawn with a Hologram. Before you pickup the upgrade your Holograms would function like they do in Reach, but once you have picked up an upgrade your Holograms will have your name appear above them, show up as red dots on radar, and turn reticles red as though they were actual players.
Maybe for Active Camo you could have the radar jammer effect no longer appear on enemies radars and be able to move at full speed without your Active Camo weakening. Perhaps for Forerunner Vision you could have waypoints over all players on the maps for a few seconds. And Jetpack could let you use it longer and at faster speeds or something.
Obviously 343 could change the length that these upgrade powerups last so that they are only long enough so that nothing becomes overpowered. They could even have varying times for different armor abilities.
And the best part about these upgrades is that you actually have to fight over them on the map so it’s still got that Halo feel to it.
Anyways, thoughts? And any unique ideas on what some potential upgrades could be?
That sounds like a really good idea, but where did you see that we won’t have Active Camo and Overshield power-ups? I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere.
Seems like a cool idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if 343 implemented something similar.

I haven’t actually seen it anywhere, but I’m kind of assuming so considering you can spawn with Active Camo as an Armor Ability. Oh, and glad you liked my idea!
I would love for this to be thrown in. It would add a dynamic battle ground to the game. Which would require a lot of skill to A) Get the Upgrade and B) Fight against the Upgrade. It also would add something over than Rockets or Sword to go after at the beginning.
While I love the idea some abilities such as jetpack would be hard to upgrade.

Unlimited jetpack use.

You could literally do ANYTHING with it because it’s balanced out by the fact that A, you have to fight over it on the map and B, you could make the time for the upgrade to be shorter depending on how powerful it actually is.

You are right I think this would be a big step foward from Reach, but we sadly would have to deal with the complaints
this sounds pretty interesting to me
I really hope 343 might consider implementing this to halo 5 since it’s already too late for halo 4
Knowing me I would sit back with a Sniper and Snipe every poor fool who tried to get their hands on it

Unfortunately, this is probably true. 343 would need TONS of additional testing to get every little part of this right. Not to mention that the map designers would have to work this into their (hopefully almost finished) designs. I’ll still be remaining optimistic though

That’s what I was planning on doing for all these weapon drop things in FFA. With the right group of randoms you would have everyone rushing for those things!
That sounds cool, I hope they eventually have a system like that.
I really like that idea, it could work quite well.
But I do want to see the classic power ups return. Just because we can spawn with cammo doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a real cammo powerup that works while moving, and there is no equivalent at all to overshields, so it should return.

Or we could have jump packs and upgrade them to jet packs
It’s just another distraction. No.
This would be a pretty sweet idea.
Camo never should have been an AA in Reach and it shouldn’t be one in Halo 4. I’d much rather they just went back to having Active camo and Overshield on the maps like they used to.
aslong as the upgrades are limited use, and so it acts as a power weapon i support this.

I like your idea, but Active Camo, Custom Powerup, and I think Overshield did exist in Reach. It was just disabled in most gametypes. My guess is that it will be the same in H4
