Considering how Halo Infinite wants to be a callback with earlier elements of the series but with 343’s modern twist like the Banished, I was wondering if anyone believes they might be considering replacing the flood with the Created. Considering how in Halo Combat Evolved, the flood stepped in and helped the UNSC in turning the tide of the battle, what if the Created were to step in filling in that role. The prometheans alone are pretty creepy already but if they wanted to give it a more horror-themed callback like the flood, maybe the Created could employ cybernetically enhanced aliens like what 343 initally wanted to employ in Halo 5 (as their early concept art implied). It’s not impossible since some did side with Cortana (like the Unggoys on their home planet). Don’t get me wrong, as tough as we precieve John to be, I really think things would’ve taken a worse turn if the flood didn’t step in on Installation 04 and considering the stakes on Installation 07 looking just as (or even more, depending on your perspective) grim, nothing is wrong with a little help from an unlikely source.
That’s an interesting idea, and would certainly provide an explanation as to why the Prometheans haven’t been showcased yet (the only other possible reason being that they’re not in the game at all, which is less likely). If they do make a surprise appearance midway through the game, I hope they’re redesigned a bit. Their weapons are fun to use, but those Promethean-only missions in Halo 5 are an absolute chore to play through for me.
Not having the flood on Zeta Halo would be shocking but we’ll see what they surprise us with.
Why can’t both the Created and the Flood be in Infinite?
If the Flood is brought back in any way I’d prefer a return to the more fungal and mummified look they had in CE, partially because old desiccated plant life mixed with dusty flesh and organs is easier to work the inevitable T-rating around, also-partially because I prefer that age of the flood before it went full meaty -Yoink!- door-esque ala Halo 3, and also-also-partially because if Infinite IS ‘going back to the beginning’ of CE’s stylization and such, assuming they bring back some of the alternate designs of the covenant that all got scrapped after CE as well (like the curled-back grunts, helmeted jackals, and spade-helmed elites), it would be cool to see a more ‘ancient’ take on the Flood.
Also the Promethians can burn in hellfire lmao, if they come back in Infinite (which they almost certainly will) I’d prefer they be like mini-bosses and not cannon fodder bullet sponges.
