I suggest getting an AI version of Sargent Johnson in Halo 5. Master Chief was too emotional with Cortana around, time for the “man” to give the Chief instructions.
I’d be very interested in hearing the moral ethics of reanimating a dead person’s personality and memories into an AI, haha.
I think she survived, and will be able to become “real” by perfecting the Forerunner’s “backwards composer”, i.e. go from digital to organic.

I have a feeling Roland (Infinity AI) will get paired with Chief for a short time. I dunno, that’d be a really interesting dynamic, with Roland unwittingly being her “replacement” and Chief having to get used to him.

The difference is, I am pretty sure Johnson’s body is a little too old and crusty to pull an image of his brain from.
i think backwards composing would make sense… I mean they have been emphasizing the fact that she is not made like a regular AI and all that…
If the Reclaimer trilogy is really about MCs and cortana’s relationship then she might as well become human…

For those of you not familiar with metastability, at the end of rampancy, AI’s become metastable, meaning they take almost human form (solid, capable of living without a device etc)
MAJOR HALO 4 PLOT SPOILER
At the end of Halo 4, Cortana survives without her chip and touches Chief, showing she has become meta stable. Also during the ending, those marines scan some debris with blue orbs floating around it, similar to that of Cortana’s colour. I think she’ll be alive elsewhere (the rampant sections that were with the Didact when he fell into the composer and sent back to Requiem (or some other Forerunner installation) OR using the possibility of those orbs being fragments of Cortana, Halsey repairs her.This is all just speculation however, but I doubt she’ll be replaced.

I wish they had a cloned brain of Sgt. Maj. Johnson so they can make it into an A.I. and replace Cortana.
At one point Cortana mentioned he may get “Another Cortana Model” but it wouldn’t be her. I would find it pretty interesting if this happened. Especially since this Cortana model would be “green as grass” not only lacking in all the Forerunner/Covenant knowledge the original attained from Halo, High Charity, and the Cark, but also in that this Cortana would have no memory or knowledge of the connection Master Chief had with the first one.
And I could definitely imagine Master Chief growing to absolutely hate the new Cortana.
Cortana will be back. In the mean time I think the Chief will either forgo a new AI or will get one he doesn’t like.
