Replace Warzone with Battle Royale

I am buckled in and ready for all the aggro comments…

Hear me out

I understand that almost all Anti-Battle Royale people are the most vocal, but the reality is, it would be an absolute wasted opportunity for 343i to introduce an open world and not utilize it.
The numbers don’t lie! There are 350 MILLION active Fortnite players as of now in 2020 and it’s actually still growing.
If we have the tech incorporated into Infinite, let’s use it. I would love to see Battle Royale replace Warzone. If they go with a UI similar to H5, Battle Royale and standard matchmaking lobbies would be completely separate, yet they would co-exist on the same platform. If you are Anti-Battle Royale, you simply do not have to switch over to that game mode and you’d still be able to enjoy the playlists you are familiar with (Slayer, Swat, Big Team Battle, Super Fiesta, Team Arena, FFA). Imagine someone coming onto the H5 forum to complain about the fact that the Warzone section just EXISTS?!

With that being said, if you are angry at the idea that Battle Royale replaces Warzone - what is your justification?

One of the reasons why I’m not in favor of this is because of how oversaturated the battle royale genre is. There’s no telling if Halo would even stand a chance when it has to go head-to-head with Fortnite, Warzone, and Apex… just to name a few. I think it’s better if Halo adds a battle royale after the game has proven itself to be a success. Investing that much time and effort into a mode that’d need to compete with some of the biggest titles out there at launch isn’t a great idea.

It would only be “competing” with those other titles if Infinite were solely a Battle Royale release.
The only thing you should be comparing is the player count of those who ONLY log onto H5 to play Warzone and that’s it. I would love to see those numbers.
Also, to think the majority of people playing Warzone are strictly just doing it to grind XP for 152, not for enjoyment. The number of active Warzone enthusiasts would be dwarfed if even a fraction of 1% of Fortnite Battle Royale players gave it a try…

Fortnite Population: 350,000,000
Halo 5: Estimated Population 361,000
Halo 5 Die-Hard Warzone Population: ?

1% of 350,000,000 = 3,500,000 (THREE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND)
***That is 99x the current player count of Halo 5

I’d honestly be okay with this since Warzone kind of just felt like invasion mixed with firefight.

I will say this up front, I am anti-Battle Royale. I hate the game mode, it’s boring imo and offers nothing.

Now that that’s out of the way.

It’s not as simple as just ‘making another game mode’. It has to take into consideration a lot of things.

  1. where will weapons spawn
  2. where will AI spawn (if there are any)
  3. where will players start and how far can they go
  4. where is the death barrier and how quickly does it move
  5. how can the players manipulate the landscape (if possible. Can they destroy parts of buildings? Can they set off reactors making a section of the area unstable? Can they utilize map control by activating barriers?)

Things like that, it seems simple but the truth is that making a Battle Royale mode means relocating more time and resources to create this one thing that is so called ‘fan favorite’. I mean, it might not even work in Halo, sure it worked for Fortnite and Apex Legends, but it seems like a few others who tried to hop on that bandwagon kind of flopped hard. Saying it should be brought to Halo simply because it worked in another game that is significantly different is like saying Gears should take up GrifBall. It could be a huge hit or it could be a great waste of resources.

I’m not exactly a fan of Warzone either, if they bring anything into Halo: Infinite, I’d prefer it was Firefight.

Both modes are terrible.

As someone who has been playing Halo since day one of Halo CE - and every Halo on day one since then, please do not add Battle Royale to Halo.

LOL

(Sorry but Battle Royale does not belong on Halo. Go and play some Apex (I really enjoy Apex).

Or Halo could ignore BR and try NOT copying other games for once in 343’s mediocre tenure as stewards of the franchise.

Additionally scrap Warzone as well it was a -Yoink-, grindier version of BTB that did nothing but plug the req system.

I’d rather have neither. Just give normal Firefight

I mean when 343 keeps saying there wont be a BR mode, more than once, I’d guess there wont be one.

I don’t think there will be Warzone. The Call of Duty franchise is what most people think of with a game type called “warzone”.
A Battle Royal game type seems likely since it is free to play. :frowning:
Invasion pls

Ugh for God sakes, would you battle royale fanboys take the hint already? Sorry to sound harsh but there have been so many topics about this on the forums. 343 has stated that BR is not going to happen, and many many many Halo fans have stated it doesn’t belong in the game.

Just because a certain game mode is trending (mostly by little kids in this game mode), doesn’t mean it needs to be added to all shooters. Why can’t we give 343 the chance to come up with their own game mode?

I couldn’t agree more, bring back Invasion, now there’s a game mode I can get to grips with.

i mean…

ideally with this halo being an ongoing live game, this forge will be the largest most advanced…

i guess though making the game mode isn’t really a question… its the networking, but depending on mod support might be easy enough (extremely difficult) to add more than the tested number of players to a game, could actually probably get double big team in a game with not the worst lag ever.

but it wouldn’t be that hard, forge would likely be able to support a battle royale mode in regards to weapon spawns and player distribution, least the way MCC has been adding vehicles, wouldn’t be all that surprised to see SOEIV’s in forge this time.

along with the weapon attachments, upgrades and equipment we’ve already seen from campaign, throw in halo 5’s breakout, with the one life deal and you have a pretty decent battle royale experience.

it just becomes an issue of networking a large number of people, the largest I’ve seen being warzone, with 24 people, almost a quarter of other games.

however though, me personally, i rather hope just firefight, in the style of reach or odst comes back, just “survive all waves” instead of spawn kill this boss like halo 5… like, i want big team firefight survive waves, with huge invasion forces coming to wipe us out, that’s a halo battle royale.

if you want the battle royale experience in a halo game though, look no further than free for all slayer and quitting when you die instantly, only to re-enter matchmaking and wait 10 minutes to find another game and die instantly.

NO

Warzone wasn’t bad I just didn’t like the fact it was monetized in halo 5. I preferred firefight from odst and reach. I’m not into battle royales but battle royale in halo infinite would increase the population higher because most popular games nowadays have battle royales.

Nah, I rather keep Warzone minus the confirmed absence of lootboxes / random rewards than anything close to this disease called “battle royale”.

I think we’ll see Battle Royale in Halo Infinite at some point, or a Battle Royale under a different name. I’ve believed that since the Bonnie Ross interview with IGN a year or two back. I’m ok with that too, I think Halo is perfect for it.

I want BR but not at the expense of a really big mode like WZ. I’m actually hoping Infinite has a massive mode way bigger than WZ, like at least twice as big. I feel like a BR is a whole other beast, not just a mode. If they do make one, they should add on a separate team completely dedicated to the BR.

If it doesn’t take anything away from the main single-player and co-op campaign experience, or any of the possible “hub areas”, then I’m all for it if they are willing to put in the work. I could see 100 ODSTs drop onto Zeta Halo and fight in cool Forerunner structures and caves, maybe even encountering enemies like the Flood or Covenant along the way.
