Rename Warzone Firefight?

There’s a lot of hate on these forums for Warzone Firefight. Many of you may actually dislike the mode and find it dull, which is totally fine, but most posts I read that complain about WZFF are comparing it to Classic Firefight, and pointing out how it’s just not as good. This comparison is totally fair, as it is, after all, what 343 named the mode. I think having “Firefight” in the name was a poor choice by 343. I can see why they might want to: It’s a PvE mode that isn’t story based, people liked Firefight, and it has rounds, but PvE and rounds is just about where the similarities end.

I really like WZFF personally. Not as much as classic, but I still really enjoy the mode. It is, however, absolutely nothing like Firefight and really shouldn’t even be compared, much like you wouldn’t compare Spartan Ops and Firefight. I’d be willing to bet some might not hate the mode as much if they didn’t jump in expecting classic Firefight and instead expected a totally new mode.

Technically they called it “Warzone Firefight” which should be enough of a difference. It is similar in that it is coop waves but it is 343s spin by mixing it with Warzone. Tbh I really like WZFF because it uses the REQs and I rarely play normal WZ. I do like the old firefight but I also like 343s take on it!

Literally nothing wrong with the name. Firefight = Players vs. AI. Warzone firefight = Players vs. AI with REQS and warzone ideaology.

It’s WARZONE Firefight - WARZONE, isn’t it enough?

It’s absolutely enough. I should clarify, I am totally okay with the name. I think a lot of people aren’t however.

Sucks for them? If people are unhappy about actual problems with the mode, why not worry about fixing them instead?

A rose by any other name still smells as sweet.

Personally, I like WZFF but I would have to agree with the sentiment that they should not have used the connotations of Firefight just to market the new mode better.
I understand the argument that its Warzone Firefight, and yes, I can read too. But by using the name Firefight, 343i was promising a certain standard and style of entertainment, and what has been delivered is nothing like it. Still fun, but much more similar to Spartan Ops without a plot than to any Firefight.
So, predictably, there will be a lot of resentment within the community (especially the older sectors) for what feels like a marketing bait-and-switch. 343i knew this when they chose to use Firefight rather than something like Warzone Operations or Survival, which would be more accurate and dismiss the possibility of setting themselves up for this argument in the first place since they wouldn’t be being held to the golden standard of Firefight.

Honestly, 343i would get the exact same hate for “building this mess” instead of “the firefight they wanted” if they did that.

I’d have to disagree m8. The community is largely in uproar because they feel cheated out of something they were promised. If that promise had never been made, it couldn’t have been broken. If 343i released this exact same gametype under the guise of it being a replacement or improvement upon Spartan Ops, I feel that it would have been welcomed much more warmly. Instead, now we have this whole PR fiasco on our hands. The Old Guard of Halo Players are very protective of Firefight since we’ve been asking for a new version every iteration of game since ODST and Reach. 343i’s attempt with Spartan Ops as a replacement was met with similar hate, then the MCC didn’t have anything, and now Halo 5 said they were finally delivering a long awaited and requested gametype.

Sure, there’d still be a handful of salty individuals who’d complain that Firefight still hadn’t come out, but they would be far fewer in number than the amount of people currently complaining about the essential bastardization of the name Firefight.

I’m happy with the gametype and the name.
