Remove the Online Forge Wall, 343!

So you didn’t heed the warning then.

This is a request to 343 Industries to remove the online-only barriers to Forge and Custom Games in Halo 5: Guardians.

We already know the damage that groups such as Lizard Squad and Phantom Squad can do, with Xbox Live going down on Christmas Day 2014 and multiple times in December 2015, so 343 must have known that it was never going to be a good idea to put Forge behind barriers such as this.

As for custom games, 343 might have thought that without split-screen there would be no point, but they forgot about the players who play-test their Forged maps.

So I request that 343 Industries removes the online and Xbox Live Gold barriers from Forge and Custom Games.

(If people are going to comment non-constructively (e.g. “never gonna happen”, “get a life”) then don’t bother commenting. This thread is here for the sole purpose of letting 343 Industries know this was not a good idea with what’s happened recently.)

Remove it naow!!! Failure to connect to your pointless forge servers should not mean I should have to rebuild half my map because you kicked me out of a mode that doesn’t need connection.

well with no splitscreen having customs offline would make it so you cant play with your friends but thats probably not important compared to these stupid hacking groups using the tiny life they have to hack xbox and psn for no gain at all

  1. Still, for those who want to play-test their map, it’s kind of essential.

  2. And that’s why online-only in non-MMOs is never a good idea, 343!

You see, This is something that I’ve warned players about since I’ve found out Custom Games is Online Only.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY understands how much online restricted access is complete garbage. Especially in Games that have never had online restrictions before.

I couldn’t have said it any better. The sooner there’s an outcry on this sort of practice, the better.

The decision to make everything “online only” in this game was simply idiotic. I don’t think this is what we wanted when we asked for dedicated servers in Halo.

I don’t agree with them not allowing to play offline, just I don’t think we should knock everyone offline because of it xD

MCC: Didn’t have enough dedicated servers. 5: WAY too much dedicated servers. They really need to get better at finding a middle ground.

I doubt that will happen, for whatever reason all multiplayer needs to connect to their services to function. They’re not going to totally overhaul it to cater to forgers.

This need a fix. This really really needs a fix.

This is pretty shallow 343. I was ready to play this on Christmas Day and then I immediately wanted to get on forge mode to try out everything new. I couldn’t do that though cause I kept getting kicked. So this has now ruined my Christmas thanks to you.

If that’s true then Halo 5 multiplayer will die completely whenever they choose to take down their servers while previous first person shooter Halo games will be played for many years to come, even when the servers go down. Turning a franchise into online only will kill a franchise.

Would be nice to edit forge without having to be tied to servers.

I specifically waited until all features were announced to see what I could play offline in this game. Its basically online only game therefore this is the first Halo I will never buy for that very reason. So I know in the long run its not much but 343 lost my 60 bucks bc they forgot what halo was about.

I get dedicated severs… but the need for everything to be hosted by their rigs seems silly.

I makes me afraid for a shortned xbone life cycle killing my ability to play games.

Wait, the MCC has ANY dedicated servers? This is news to me.

Well wait a sec, I thought they specifically delayed forge in order to add all these extra new features in order to cater to forgers. Why would they not also remove these barriers? Completing a mission/raid/match or whatever before your internet cuts out is hit and miss and annoying enough. Now people looking to spend hours by themselves run the risk of all their solo work being erased because even solo forge has to be online for some reason.

Dear 343,
All I want for Christmas is for you to realize your precious forge mode / custom games do NOT need to be run on dedicated servers.

  1. Many players lack usable internet, or have zero ability to play online.
  2. Many of us have a data cap, and the XBone eats enough data as-is.
  3. There is literally zero reason to not have it available offline.
Simple check: “Can I connect to master server? No? Starting local server.”

Please stop being irrational, 343!

Seriously, though. Adding in offline access gives more people reason to buy the game.
It’s like you guys don’t want our money.
