seriously, any vehicle, no any thing which requires 3 shots of the splaser shouldn’t be in matchmaking.
I find its high profile to make it very susceptible to taking damage. Its not been a problem for me.
> I find its high profile to make it very susceptible to taking damage. Its not been a problem for me.
yeah because you stole your teams kill after they sacrificed themselves to try and stop it.

It’s a team game, so if the Mantis gets taken out by anyone on the team, isn’t that the principle of the matter?
The Mantis isn’t really OP. It’s big, slow, and clunky. Team shot it, etc. I’ve not really run into a problem where we simply CANNOT take out the Mantis.

No… because team shooting takes it down pretty fast. The shields are only an overwhelming problem if you are constantly charging it by yourself. No, its not like a ghost where one suicide sticky takes it out.
> The Mantis isn’t really OP. It’s big, slow, and clunky. Team shot it, etc. I’ve not really run into a problem where we simply CANNOT take out the Mantis.
If you pin the other team in their base, the hill in the middle of ragnarok can be used to abuse the shield mechanic. That being said, you had already lost irrespective of the mantis if the other team is that much better than yours.

thats why i believe it should be removed from matchmaking, feel free to keep it in customs like the scorpion and the wraith were in halo 3, just not in matchmaking because in matchmaking, no one plays as a team. all it does is slow the game down and turn things one sided, it’s especially bad in CTF where going offense is basicly suicidal so you can’t get their flag anf they can’t get yours until one of the mantis’ is down, then the team with a mantis gets a chance to score.
really i find the mantis easy to destroy and its machine gun underpowered vs infantry. I find all vehicles in Halo 4 way to easy to destroy. Anybody else notice that?
> really i find the mantis easy to destroy and its machine gun underpowered vs infantry. I find all vehicles in Halo 4 way to easy to destroy. Anybody else notice that?
it’s machine gun can annihilate a ghost in seconds, a player is a mere small fry, lets not forget the missile cannons

this is a problem, i want to go out there and fight not sit at the base twiddling my thumbs, the mantis leaves you no choice here.

do you play CTF often with randoms?
the fact is, every players mindset in halo is that they are to go out there and get as much done as they can for their team, be it kills, flag running, driving the flag carrier etc. but with the mantis, players lose that initiative because they realize that no matter what they do, there’s no hope against that thing unless they have a competent team and finding a competent team of randoms is difficult, it can be done but it’s very rare. regardless, i just want to have fun and the mantis stops players from having fun because it’s pretty much a walking death.

So… you don’t want it in TEAM game types because it requires TEAM play? I find it especially odd, when you say you are playing CTF which should have more of an emphasis on teamwork than something like team slayer.
I think the reason you’re having trouble with it is BECAUSE you aren’t playing as a team

how can i? what do you want me to do? be like this guy? (warning bad language) because no one will listen otherwise and if no one listens, there is no team play. above all, the game is supposed to be fun so i don’t believe teamplay should be compulsory to have fun. and it’s no fun knowing you have zero chance of winning because of a mantis.

You can watch what your teammates do and react accordingly. If they are running to the pelican, you can head there too, or you could grad a precision weapon and flank to give them covering fire.
But yes. I do think team play should be compulsory in a team game. I have NEVER had a game where my team didn’t win because of a mantis. I have had games where I couldn’t win because my team didn’t properly deal with it.

so essentially what you are saying is that i should camp at the team base all game instead of being the one guy to charge towards the enemy base, no matter what there are always three people waiting at the base, either that or they split up and then the mantis kills them one by one. i’ve been in only one game where the entire team actually zerged the enemy base, and that game was over in seconds because we kicked their -Yoinks!-. the thing is that since the flag auto resets, CTF is 100% offense now, there is no reason to stay at the base, in fact you are better to just wait in the middle of the map or at the enemy base for the flag carrier to die, why people camp at theie team base is beyond me but in the end i say, let them have their fun but i want to have fun too and i can’t if they don’t join the fight against the mantis.
i think it would be more fun for everyone if it was just taken out, at least in CTF because it is ridiculous.
When did they add touch return to CTF? I thought it was still 15 seconds to return.
> so essentially what you are saying is that i should camp at the team base all game instead of being the one guy to charge towards the enemy base, no matter what there are always three people waiting at the base, either that or they split up and then the mantis kills them one by one.
If they split up and you go with one of them, then you now have the ability to team shoot.
But yeah. If people aren’t actually playing CTF, then CTF won’t be much fun.
I believe that the main reason that Plasma Pistols and Plasma Grenades are options as starting weapons is because the Mantis exists as a vehicle. Think about it: what vehicle is more difficult to take down than a Mantis? If PPs and PGs were eliminated from starting loadouts, you could still take down other vehicles with team-shooting and grenades, but a Mantis would be nearly unstoppable. Not only that, but it is much easier for a Mantis to destroy any vehicle than it is for any vehicle to destroy a Mantis.
The Mantis may be large and clunky, but is also very mobile, making it easy to run away when it’s about to be overcome. Other heavy vehicles such as the Wraith and Scorpion don’t have that ability.
Every vehicle except the Mantis has weaknesses that balance them. The Warthog’s gunner and the Ghost are vulnerable to precision loadout weapons. The Scorpion and Wraith are slow and easy to EMP. The Mantis is not vulnerable to loadout weapons and even though it’s large, because of its shape, it’s not easy to EMP.

so essentially if no one in your team has plasma loadouts, you are almost guarenteed to lose if your mantis got fried.
> When did they add touch return to CTF? I thought it was still 15 seconds to return.
i never said they did i was talking about halo 3 and how the removal of touch return has changed CTF.
