I’m not the only one here that sees the malefic effects that the kicking system has had. I played a game yesterday where I went in to harass a guy with Hogs (as is standard) and the guy resigned and proceeded to kick me. Of course I had to taunt him with the obligatory “2 ez” message, but let’s be real. This guy kicked me because he’s bad at the game.
Giving casuals the ability to kick people is preposterous. I’m not advocating to make some sort of biased system where people with a certain skill level can’t kick people though. If one person can do it, everyone should be able to. Thing is, a lot of people abuse it. They treat the privilege with absolute irresponsibility. So if the community as a whole can’t be kept in line, then the kicking system should be removed. Things like this should be evident. I can’t believe 343 overlooked such a large issue.
Before, I had defended HW DE when it comes to supporting the competitive community. Don’t get me wrong, competitive games are still possible. Yet they are so much more difficult to come by without a Trueskill system. Now I see the true degradation of high-level play that has been imposed upon us.
The high-level community is not entitled to a competitive game. Yet the casual community is not entitled to a casual game. I’m not going to “demand” anything. All I’m trying to do is to appeal to reason. Look at how the competitive community has kept Halo Wars going. That said, 343 doesn’t owe us anything. Yet I can say without a shadow or shred of doubt that if you ostracize this side of the community, your product will suffer. Many people have already canceled their pre-orders. Answer? Remove the ability to kick people from lobbies.
Does kicking you after the host resigns boot you from the game? Like if you were say doing a 3v3 and the match was still going?

When the host resigns, the game continues. If the host leaves the lobby, the game continues. However, when you come back to the lobby, it is disbanded.
I’m not really sure what your question is.
I think he means if host resigns then backs out to lobby to kick, it will kick you but when game is finished to tell the difference is.
The host has left the lobby.
You are no longer connected.
If it says the latter the host booted you after they quit it is really common too.
The server browser custom games only option should be a bonus on top of the legacy system put the old system back and keep this for custom games.
Please 343 please I just want to play good games with no ranking 99% of my games are cutter players going reactor first barracks second, we need matchmaking so players find their skill level it is a fundamental element of rts games.

I am not saying you are wrong about how they might have had the legacy multiplayer system. I also think the kicking is getting out of control, and there need to be strict penalties to fight against kicking. They will not bring back the legacy system, not at least till full release, for this system is more for the act of preparing new casual gamers for the upcoming console rts experience.

It is bad for casual guys too as good players get matched with them 343 really needs to meet in the middle here.
Why not just host your own games then? Problem solved. If a person doesn’t feel like playing the same person again, they shouldn’t have to. I mean it’s their lobby, what difference does it make if they kick you or just back out to start a new one?

I’m not sure removing kicking is the correct option. I think kicking is a useful tool.
To remove kicking, the current lobby system would need to be removed. If a host is looking for a certain game style, or a certain skill-type of players, then it really is their prerogative to filter players as they see fit. What if you want to keep noobs out of your lobby? Or someone that you know will intentionally ruin the match?
But really, this custom match style of lobbies is terrible for competitive play.

Kicking is indeed a useful tool, but people just can’t be trusted to use it reasonably. There are many ways to go about fixing the DE lobbies, and I’m only proposing a single option. Really what I’m concerned about (and what other people should be concerned about) is getting 343 to realize their mistakes and fix them. I’ve never seriously played any of their other games, so I stand on skeptical grounds. I’m happy that CA is handling Halo Wars 2, but 343’s role with HW DE is already having malefic effects (pre-order cancels, outrage over the code debacle, the ostracism of competitive players, etc.). Although I have to add that I’m not sure if CA or 343 had more influence with the Definitive Edition. I presume 343 since CA should be busy polishing up HW 2.
That said, lobby naming seems like it would do the same thing as removing the kick option without… removing the kick option. I’d be in favor of implementing that and seeing what it would do before enacting any further changes.

I only search when people won’t join my games. HW DE is the closest an RTS can get to what I would describe as a “casual hellscape.” No one wants to play 1s.

That’s because everyone rushes. It’s why the original died. Certain tactics are way too powerful. Scorpions for example need a nerf, as do Spartan driven UNSC units in general. HJP is right, if he doesn’t want to play you because your early game rushing and sucking up all his fun using tactics he hates, he has a right to play someone else.

Lol, I barely ever rush. Nice assumptions. If he’s going to dodge me because I’m too good of a player, then fine. I just want to let those dodgers know that they’re shameful.
Also, scorps don’t need a nerf. They have counters just like every other unit.

A early game hog harassment is a form of rush. As I said in my own thread, the counters are useless against anything but tanks, so building them just cripples you later on.

Harassment =/= rushing. A rush goes in with the intent to end the game right then and there. Harassment goes in with the goal of setting your opponent back. Also, rushing is defined as an attack no later than 4 minutes into the game. Yet you can harass your enemy the entire game if you’d like. Example- your enemy has built an army and is moving it towards your base. There are no units protecting his base, so you send in Hogs to take down a few supply pads and get him to turn his army around.
The statement “counters are useless against anything but tanks” is correct in some instances and incorrect in others. Hunters are good against marines, pretty much every vehicle there is, and even flamers granted they’re at a higher tech level. Cobras on the other hand… Are trash. The best bet against tanks as UNSC is either air, gremlins, or your own tanks. Tanks are still not without their counters.
