Remove Sprint Panting

It’s annoying and unrealistic. Spartans shouldn’t be panting, they’re super soldiers in Mjolnir battle armor.

My fix for this? Get rid of the panting sound, and bump up the sound of footsteps significantly. Now that’s realistic, a two ton Spartan coming down with all of his weight. Also, it would be nice if the sprint had a longer duration, even by a second.

Hopefully this will be considered for the TU. Thoughts?

Great suggestions. Makes perfect sense. Turn up the footsteps a notch, cause its stupid to have a supersoldier panting.

The panting is a game mechanic to alert people who pay attention that someone is sprinting in their immediate vicinity, and maybe even towards them for a double-melee or assassination. It has nothing to do with super soldiers being out of breath.

We all know panting is there for balance reason, but to make it more canon they could scrap the panting completely and add quick and heavy footsteps to sprint instead.

It would still alert people of an approaching sprinter and it would be more appropriate from a canon point of view.

I know that, that’s why it should be replaced with a more… cannonical sound.

If you really care about canon that much, the whole sprinting armor ability is complete bogus. So why worry about one aspect of something that defies not only canon but logical as well?

Bogus? Yes, because the supersoldiers who have been clocked at running over 30km/h, some even over 50km/h, should not be able to sprint. It’s the only armor ability that is balanced and makes sense. The panting is annoying as well, the beginning of games sound like wild dogs were let loose.

It’s not that their panting, it’s that they’re broadcasting their breaths out loud. Bungie felt there needed to be an audible penalty for every AA, some louder or longer than others. Panting is how the Sprint is “given away.”

He knows what it is for, he’s saying it should be replaced with more audible footsteps (in quick succession). I prefer that as well, tbh.

I don’t know about you but I am actually lighter on my feet when running not heavier.

“As said in the instruction manual, this ability (Sprint) is a hack affecting the motion restrictors in the armour that prevent a Spartan from injuring themselves by moving too quickly.” Bogus, you call it?

> I don’t know about you but I am actually lighter on my feet when running not heavier.

Lighter or not, spartans are still wearing a ton or heavier of armor, and if your feet were colliding with the ground with that weight, you’d know someone was running simply by the sound of the rapid impacts with the ground from their feet.

Do SPARTAN-IIIs smoke or something…? :\

If you had read the books, then you would know that the Spartans can run well over 20kph, and would be able to do so for an extended period of time. All of that before the MJOLNIR armor. They wouldn’t be any need for an override. If it were realistic, all Spartans could run at high speeds, and have nearly perfect aim. But its a game, so the book material only covers the story.

I hate it when Master Chief, a super soldier that has beaten the Covenant, the flood, saved humanity, and made 3 games, has to pant like a fat kid every time he runs away in firefight. And of course, his footsteps are loud as hell when he’s simply jogging, but all of the sudden he’s 3 pounds when he sprints at full speed? WTF?

Totally agree. Heck, even regular soldiers today don’t start panting like dogs the moment they start sprinting.

Making the footsteps of a sprinting Spartan very audible not only makes more sense canon-wise, it’ll also be a lot more tolerable in-game as opposed to the constant “pant pant pant pant” every game brings.

Yes, bogus, as Kelly can move significantly faster than any Spartan even while wearing her Mjolnir armor.

Another reason why Reach breaks cannon. Do you honestly think that a Spartan would need a “hack” for their Mjolnir armor to RUN?

I’m not in the position to give you a valid answer on that question, I’m just presenting you with facts.

Not trying to bash you or anything. Sorry if I came across like that. Anyway, being the Halo fan I am, I’ve read the manual multiple times, and I’m just saying that Bungie BS’d that, and broke cannon. According to books, and some cutscenes within the Halo games, Spartans can sprint on will, and don’t need a hack to do so.
